Alumni Newsletter
The Fort Bend Texans family has been an important part of many player, coach and family lives over the years, and we frequently receive requests for updates from our alumni. This alumni newsletter was created to share our news and updates with our former teammates, coaches and lifetime friends!

We look forward to your feedback and hope to see you at our next Fort Bend Texans Alumni Event!
Welcome Back Spencer Griffin
CF Spencer Griffin (Travis HS Class of 2015) played for the Fort Bend Texans from 2013 - 2015. After graduating from Wharton County Junior College in 2017 he was drafted as the 2017 16th Round pick of the Los Angeles Angels. Spencer re-joined the Fort Bend Texans as a coach in the 2017 offseason and we are thrilled to welcome him back this year.

After spending his Rookie season with the Orem Owelz, Spencer was assigned the low A Burlington Bees for the 2018 season. " From the hot Spring Training fields to the cold fields of the Midwest I really enjoyed myself for this past season. I learned so much more about the game itself and myself as well and I’m looking to forward to continuing to perfect my craft while at home this offseason. I’m also looking forward to coaching these kids and helping them develop as young men and as ball players."
Coach Kyle Smith Moving to Arizona
The Fort Bend Texans are sad to say good-bye to Coach Kyle Smith. After 12 years coaching with the Fort Bend Texans, Coach Smith and his family are moving to Carlsbad, New Mexico where Kyle has accepted a position with Marathon Oil Company. Kyle joined the Fort Bend Texans after completing his time in the minor leagues and has shared his years of collegiate and professional baseball with the Fort Bend Texas players as a well loved and vital part of our program. Kyle and his family will be moving after the holidays. The Fort Bend Texans are thankful for the many years that Kyle shared with our players and will miss him!

Welcome Coach Sterling Smith
Sterling Smith joins the Fort Bend Texans coaching staff after relocating from the San Antonio area. He attended Antonian College Prep High School where he lettered in baseball and football, earning All District and All State honors. After high school, Sterling accepted a baseball scholarship to Prairie View A&M University and helped his team to a Conference Championship and Division I NCAA Regional Tournament. Sterling graduated in 2013 with a degree in history and began his career as a teacher/coach in the San Antonio area. He considers it an honor to coach and mentor student athletes and is a wonderful addition to the Fort Bend Texans coaching staff. Sterling is currently a teacher/coach in the Houston area.
Welcome back Fernando Martinez
The Fort Bend Texans welcomed back another former player as an addition to our coaching staff this fall. Fernando Martinez (P) played with the Fort Bend Texans prior to his graduation from Bush High School in 2011. After graduation he played college ball at Wharton County JC, Lamar University and LSU-Alexandria. Coach Martinez is still an active independent player and will be playing for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes in Mexico during the 2019 season.

Merry Christmas!
On behalf of the current Fort Bend Texans players, coaches & staff, we wish all you the very best for this Christmas season and the new year ahead!

Scholarship Fund Donations
Your generous donations to the  Dennis & Velma Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund have allowed the Fort Bend Texans to continue financial support of local players as well as support our outreach program to players in the inner city areas of Mississippi. Your generosity has made it possible for many players to experience travel baseball and provided the opportunity for many who have gone on to earn college baseball scholarships. THANK YOU! The Fort Bend Texans is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and sponsorship donations are fully tax deductible.
Let us hear from you! We would love to share your news with the rest of your Fort Bend Texans Alumni Family!
