The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Jeremiah 36:1-8, 21-23, 27-31

How we respond to prophets Part One. Jeremiah gives the people of Judah one more chance to hear all of the words from God inviting change. God actually seems a little hopeful that once they hear the words, they will change. And then the king gets a hold of the scroll containing the words of God and throws it into a fire. God tells Jeremiah to start again. When we feel challenged by prophets, we may want to flee from their words or do what we can to destroy them. God's word will keep returning to us... will keep challenging us... until we turn to God.

Holy and Mighty God, we see how many chances God gives the people to change, and yet they resist.. Tune our hearts to Your word, Lord! Help us to see our sin and receive your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

Where is God in all of this war?

• Relieve us of our self-centered fears, that we might be open to your truth and ready to act accordingly.
• Open our hearts to see your creation as you do, that we might work to restore, protect, and preserve what you have made.
• Open our hearts to see our neighbors as you do, that we might work for the flourishing of every single human being.
• Open our hearts to treat ourselves with love, and when we face illness, often through no fault of our own, give us hope and healing especially Ken & Sue Issel, Ric Tornberg, and the family of Chris Gimre.
• Inspire us by the example of saints who have gone before us to speak your truth boldly on behalf of creation, those in need, the oppressed, and the whole world.

Trusting in your unending grace for all that you have made, we lift these and the prayers of our hearts to your loving care. Amen.
