The University City Trumpet
"When a biological male competes in women’s sports a biological female loses playing time, a championship or even a scholarship. They also lose life lessons that can shape her future in a positive way. We must ensure that only biological females are competing in female sports. The Fairness in Women’s Sports Act would allow a woman to sue a college or high school if her right to compete is taken by a biological male." State Representative Martina White, the Chair of Republican City Committee. Listen to her speak about the issue at a press conference concerning the introduction of the Fairness in Women's Sports Act.

Supreme Court Election Results
Working in politics is about winning. You can’t govern if you don’t win.

In the recent primary election there was only one contested race for Republicans, the state Supreme Court. We had three good candidates, but elections are about choosing. Kevin Brobson, the President Judge of Commonwealth Court, was endorsed by the Republican State Committee, the Republican City Committee and by us in West Philly. He won comfortably statewide.

I am very proud of the effort put forth by the Committeepeople and volunteers in the 27th Ward, where I serve as Ward Leader, and in the adjacent 46th Ward, where Denise Furey serves as Ward Leader. We both carried Judge Brobson. I am glad that our people are willing to work hard for a better city and that our constituents have enough confidence in us to consider our recommendations.

It was not easy. The attached picture shows that out of 66 wards in Philadelphia, we were the only two to carry Judge Brobson. Admittedly the turnout was low and we need to register more Republicans in West Philly, but our goal in every election, whether a primary or a general, is to shift margins where we can influence the vote.

To see how hard we worked you need to look at the percentages (1649 of 1703 divisions reporting):

CITYWIDE
Brobson 27.37%
Patrick 58.00%
McCullough 14.06%

27th WARD

Brobson 66.66%
Patrick 27.37%
McCullough 14.06%

46th WARD

Brobson 51.06%
Patrick 31.91%
McCullough 14.89%

This was not a fluke where we lucked out and won by a vote. We worked for this. And best of all, my ward did better than Denise’s so I get bragging rights on Regent Square.

Check out the citywide results at the City Commissioners website.
Other Primary Results

As we noted, Judge Brobson won statewide and will be the Republican nominee for the important race for Supreme Court.

All five of the questions prevailed as we recommended. Most important were the two constitutional amendments that will act as a check on one man (the emperor, I mean the governor) from having total control over our lives any time he or she decides to declare an emergency.

We have a strong statewide ticket for judicial positions in the Superior Court and Commonwealth Court to support Judge Brobson.

Finally, we have a great candidate in Chuck Peruto for District Attorney. We have the worst prosecutor in America here in Philadelphia and need to change that. Enough IS Enough.
The City Commissioners v the Rule of Law

The City Commissioners had a meeting on June 1. They voted to apply the law.

You might think "Well, of course they did!" Unfortunately that is not always the case. Last week they voted 2-1 to arrogantly and flagrantly count mail ballots that do not comply with the clear language of the Pennsylvania Election Code, which both the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Department of State have stated would have been improper. Both Democratic Commissioners voted to violate the law. Republican Al Schmidt was the only one who stood strong against this fraud.

In the meantime the House Republicans, led by Philadelphia State Representative Martina White, threatened the Commissioners who voted in favor of this scheme with impeachment. Commissioners Deeley and Sabir were shocked. Impeachment for violating their oaths of office? They thought that was outrageous. Rule of law doesn't seem to mean the same thing to them as it does to me.

Fortunately, Commissioner Sabir came to his senses and reversed his vote. Commissioner Deeley, however, was passionately in favor of this abomination simply to get some cheap headlines. Fortunately, with Commissioner Schmidt's support the improper votes were not counted. The Republic is safe.

It is a shame that it took the threat of impeachment to force the Commissioners to follow the law. It is ridiculous that the vote was not unanimous.
Important Zoning Meeting

All of our wards in West Philly are Registered Community Organizations (RCO's). The 27th Ward Republican Committee RCO is the coordinating RCO for a matter regarding sineage on the 3700 block of Walnut Sheet. You can join the public meeting on June 7, 2021 at 7PM by going to the University of Pennsylvania's Zoom Link. You can get full information on the University City Trumpet's Facebook page.
The University City Trumpet is a publication of the University City Republican Committee in Philadelphia. It is published whenever we want to publish it and it contains whatever we want to put in it, although generally it contains information that we think will be of interest to Republicans in University City. Feel free to pass it along to a friend (or to an enemy). If you want to be put on our subscription list or want to be taken off, let us know at Matthew@Wolfe.org. Copyright 2021
