--About the Playhouse--

A former tannery that was splendidly transformed into a theater in 1931, the Westport Country Playhouse initially served as a try-out house for Broadway transfers, evolving into an established stop on the New England straw-hat circuit of summer stock theaters through the end of the 20th century.

Following a multi-million dollar renovation completed in 2005, the Playhouse became a producing, non-profit, regional theater, preserving its original charm and character. Today it presents a variety of plays, readings, concerts, and other events throughout the year.

--About our Tour--

The “Page to the Stage” tour lasts about ninety minutes. We'll cover a bit of the theater’s history in the lobby and will then settle into seats in the theater to discuss how a play is produced. Our guide Bruce Miller will talk about how a play is chosen, what designers do, how actors are cast, and what rehearsals involve. We'll also get to see set designs, models, and costumes. We'll then tour the scene shop, dressing rooms, and Greenroom as well as the stage itself.

--Accessibility--

The Playhouse is a fully accessible facility.

If a member of your group has difficulty with stairs, please let us know when you RSVP.
