Twin Dining Series Open 31st CNY Jazz Season

Sixty-five Jazz Events Scheduled

Central New Yorkers never need to look very far to find America’s music in deluxe settings, thanks to the efforts of CNY Jazz.

Their 31st season of concerts, cabarets, festivals, and educational events opens this month in two locations with weekly offerings.

CNY Jazz at Timber Banks, in the popular golf and marina community along the Seneca River, will feature entertainment on Thursdays starting September 11.

And the Marriott Downtown, the historic Hotel Syracuse, will kick off CNY Jazz at the Cavalier on Wednesdays beginning September 30.

This marks the fifth year of jazz programming at Persimmons in the Timber Banks Clubhouse and the 10th in the Cavalier Room of the Marriott.

“Celebrating these anniversaries is due to more than just good luck,” offered Larry Luttinger, series organizer. “These series are meeting community tastes and becoming a part of the cultural firmament, making our region known for its attention to quality of life. Each is unique. One is in a laid-back riverside living location, the other in historic hotel surroundings in a grand piano lounge like the famous Pershing in Chicago or the Café Carlyle in Manhattan, a cosmopolitan vibe, if you will. Fine music, dining, and plush surroundings make these nights the place to be for savvy nightlifers.”

Both series will open with performances by the area’s most popular interpreter of the Great American songbook, Scott Dennis, fronting the Jazz Mafia, the noted combo backing up multiple regional acts.

Other artists appearing throughout the season include the SAMMY-winning Cheri Giraud, the Will Gorman Trio, seasoned veterans like Nancy Kelly, Ronnie Leigh, and Steve Brown with Dino Losito, Latin-tinged sounds by Simpático, Lubossa, and Edgar Pagan, RnB and classic soul by Michael Houston & Sam Wynn, pop and Americana from Todd Hobin & Letizia and Quatro, and many other talented jazz artists from across the region.

As “CNY Jazz Club” events, there are no cover charges, and CNY Jazz donors will receive 10% discounts on food and drink at all events. Ample parking surrounds the Timber Banks location, and free valet parking is offered Wednesdays by the Marriott when validated by Cavalier Room waitstaff.
