MAKE YOUR HOME LESS INVITING.
You don't have to make your property spider-free. The better goal is to discourage spiders from setting up shop where your family lives.
Remove abandoned webs around entrances and patios. Reduce clutter in garages and storage areas. Keep firewood and stored materials away from the house when possible. Seal gaps around doors and other entry points. Trim vegetation touching the structure, and pay attention to areas where outdoor lighting attracts large numbers of insects.
Most importantly, control the insects that spiders depend upon. A few garden spiders catching insects along the back fence may be doing you a favor. But repeated webs around doors, spiders regularly entering the house, or potentially dangerous spiders in garages and living spaces can indicate that it's time to look beyond the spider itself.
