Gov. Evers Declares Public Health Emergency Due to COVID-19

MADISON, Wis — Gov. Tony Evers declared a public health emergency Thursday in response to new cases of COVID-19, according to a release.

The Department of Health Services will be able to use all resources necessary to contain the outbreak. Wisconsin has had five new cases of COVID-19 and Illinois and Minnesota has seen more cases.

Wisconsin also has 37 residents returning to Wisconsin from the Princess Cruise Ship who might have been exposed and will be in self-quarantine for 14 days.

“We have been working aggressively to slow the spread of COVID-19, and this declaration allows us to get the resources we need to continue to be proactive when it comes to protecting Wisconsinites,” said Evers. “It is the latest step in the work our state agencies have been doing around the clock with our health care partners to prepare for the possibility of COVID-19 becoming a global pandemic.”

PDPW Will Live Stream Annual Business Conference

As the COVID-19/coronavirus situation continues to evolve, we wanted to provide an update regarding the 2020 PDPW Business Conference scheduled for next week.

On Thursday, March 12, Governor Evers declared a public health emergency with regard to the coronavirus, and the State Department of Health Services recommended events of more than 250 not be held in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

To protect public health in step with the recommendations, the PDPW Board decided the annual Business Conference will go ahead as planned for March 18-19, but will be offered virtually online rather than in-person at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

U.S. Pork Shipments to China Fall to Lowest Ever - USDA

CHICAGO, March 12 (Reuters) - U.S. export sales of pork to China hit their lowest on record in the week ended March 5 even as access to ports improved in the world's top consumer of pork, the U.S. Agriculture Department (USDA)said on Thursday.

The USDA's weekly report showed that Chinese buyer cancellations pushed down total export sales to China to negative 45,222 tonnes of pork, the lowest since record keeping began in 2013 and eclipsing the previous record of negative 17,614 tonnes of export sales in the week ended Jan. 2.
