Accreditation is a measure of training program excellence, and UCNS-accredited neurologic subspecialty programs demonstrate that they meet the standards of graduate medical education excellence set by both the UCNS and the respective subspecialty. UCNS-accredited fellowship programs demonstrate their compliance with the curriculum standards through a peer-reviewed process with the oversight of the Accreditation Council. Graduates of UCNS-accredited programs are eligible to apply for UCNS certification examinations.
The UCNS currently accredits fellowship programs in the United States and Canada in the following 10 neurologic subspecialties:
Autonomic Disorders
Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry
Clinical Neuromuscular Pathology
Geriatric Neurology
Headache Medicine
Interventional Neurology
Neonatal Neurocritical Care
Neurocritical Care
Neuroimaging
Neuro-oncology
Programs interested in seeking accreditation may submit an application by January 31, 2025, for inclusion in the spring 2025 application review cycle. Applications received by July 31, 2025, will be included in the fall application review cycle. There are currently 239 UCNS-accredited fellowship programs.
