Hi everyone,
I hope this finds you all well and enjoying this beautiful summer of ours. In our last COVID-19 InfoBulletin on July 9th, we spoke of Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization’s Director General’s comment regarding how the current pandemic is a true test of character in terms of how we must unite for the sake of all humanity.

Nothing could be truer. As we continue to wage war against this virus, we are witnessing an unprecedented international coming together…not just within the medical and healthcare industries, but amongst all peoples. We’re witnessing stronger social movements for change that are addressing and exposing deeply rooted injustices of inequality. I hope with all my heart that change is coming and that this pandemic is bringing with a re-awakening that will translate into a stronger, more just society for all.
The articles we’ve curated for you this week focus on some exciting research and breakthroughs: the international vaccine race, a Canadian mask that may kill the coronavirus, how Dex and remdesivir, long-time meds for people with myeloma, are being used in hospitals throughout Canada to successfully treat critical COVID-19 patients, the danger of conspiracy theories surrounding the pandemic, and more.
On behalf of the Myeloma Canada team, I hope you find these bulletins interesting and helpful in managing the vast amount of information out there: we can’t afford to fall prey to dangerous conspiracy theories, misinformation and myths. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of looking at, and knowing, the information source of what you’re reading. Make sure it is credible, trust-worthy, reliable and backed by science. And for up-to-date pandemic-related information and safety measures by province, please be sure to visit the COVID-19 and Canada section on myeloma.ca.
Take care, stay safe and stay well,
Martine
*In case you missed our announcement on July 8th, Myeloma Canada has commissioned
3 great-looking and comfortable non-medical grade face masks for you and yours. It was important for us to support local, so we’re proud to say that our masks are made right here, in Canada. Click here for more information on the masks, and on how to order them.
