Celebrating Aging Through the Performing Arts
Greetings!

Being faced with detours and no Senior Variety shows for 2020 and 2021 (back in 2022) the group has continued to work hard on our mission to showcase senior talent. We created a bi-weekly newsletter, videos on YouTube, enhanced our website, and Facebook. It has been a new and sometimes difficult journey that has brought out the dusty thinking caps, and constant brainstorming for finding ways to keep the Senior Variety Show alive and out there wherever we can.

Well, we are so excited to showcase the Senior Variety Shows newest venture in this week’s newsletter, “MUSICAL TELEGRAMS”!   We may not be able to entertain you with the annual Senior Variety Show, but we can bring you a fun personal celebration (in a responsible, safe way during these times).

We all have a special someone to honor, a mother, father, birthdays, retirements, anniversaries and so many others. The performers will bring music, humor, poems etc. to fit the occasion. You can be sure the costumes will be hilarious and zany!.  It’s an opportunity to make someone happy with Musical Telegram.

Geri Derner, “I am so excited to have a new way to share senior talents with the welcoming public. The Senior Variety Show is so much more than just a show. It really is a celebration and now we can bring the celebration pretty much anywhere for any occasion. I am particularly excited about the Musical Telegrams because after serving on the production team for seven years, I am finally old enough to actually perform!”

Ronnie Lindeman, “It’s hard to keep performers off the stage, so the Senior Variety folks are taking it on the road! The surprise factor will make a loved one smile and mark a special occasion with some lighthearted music and giggles! We can’t wait to see the reactions!”

 “Keeping Up With Folks”
Let’s read how some folks have been spending their time these past months

Larry & Phyllis Schrag: “Phabulous” Phyllis and “Loveable” Larry have made the most of our quarantine by taking daily walks during nice weather. On those walks, we pick up trash because “bending over is a great exercise, plus it helps beautify our community”. I continue to quilt for others using my longarm machine and found that many of my customers used their time to finish the quilts they started BC-“before Covid-19”. I practice playing the piano and just to keep in vocal shape, tried to sing through my hymnbook. Larry started a neighborhood jigsaw puzzle library in which people shared their puzzles with each other. Some puzzles were so large that he found placing an abandoned closet door on top of the family room table worked great to keep the puzzle pieces sorted for placement. Of course, we enjoyed exploring culinary delights and recipes, too.
You can send your quarantine projects and ideas to us at storycountysvs@gmail.com and we will share. Building community one project at a time.

Newsletter humor by Steve Bellin:

A cricket walked into a London sporting goods store.
"Hey," said the clerk, shocked to see an insect with an interest in sports. "We have a game named after you."

"Really?" said the cricket. "You have a game called Charles?"

***Prince Charles is a cricket? I thought the Prince was a “frog”!***

“FINALLY MAY SHOWERS BRINGING FLOWERS! AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS GROWING TOO!”   “ENJOY!!!!!”
What’s better than singing in the rain?
