| The mission statement of SEAMASS includes a goal to promote communication and recognition among structural engineers. When I attend SEAMASS events like the Annual Meeting last month, I see a group of professionals that embody that purpose. A strength of SEAMASS is the reliable, consistent communication and participation of our members. My time as a SEAMASS member and on the board of directors has been one of continuity. For every question I have had, a SEAMASS member was there to answer or guide me in the right direction. | | |
As SEAMASS grows as an organization, it is equally encouraging that the Young Members Group (YMG) grows in the same way. With engagement among student members and the YMG at a recent high, the future of SEAMASS looks brighter than ever.
Working with the outgoing board members over the past few years has been a pleasure. I want to thank Han Xu, PE for his contributions over the past four years as Director and President. Heading into this term with four new directors, I look forward to working closely with the Board and maintaining the continuity that makes SEAMASS unique. As the current board begins our work for the upcoming year, we ask that you continue to invite other professionals to SEAMASS events. You can also contribute by joining committees, or by offering your time, expertise and ideas to help with our programs. Please contact me or programs@seamass.org if we can be of any assistance.
Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you all in the upcoming year.
Sincerely,
| | Graham Carr, PE | SEAMASS President, June 2026 - May 2027 | | 2026 Engineering Student Scholarship Winners | | | | |

In the first half of 2025, the SEAMASS Young Members Group conducted a survey of structural engineers.
The goal was to learn about who structural engineers are as a group and to help members achieve their professional and financial goals. Information is crucial for employees and employers to make decisions and the intent of this survey was to serve as a metric for the profession.
Of the 82 respondents that completed the survey, 65 (79%) were white, 64 (78%) were men, and 61 (74%) worked in Massachusetts. The Median work experience was 6.75 years.
