Hello Dear Reader:

¡Felices Fiestas! to all the Latin American countries celebrating their Independence this week—and Chile is no exception!

El 18, or Fiestas Patrias, as we say in Chile, is celebrated this Friday. Chile Lindo will be open late to welcome you to enjoy an empanada, a glass of wine and to commemorate together.

¡Para el 18, Chile Lindo estará abierto hasta que las velas no ardan!

Special guest, visiting from Chile, Margarita Calderón Cáceres, cantora e investigadora de las tradiciones chilenas.

Come celebrate Fiestas Patrias with us—empanadas, vino, guitarrear, cantar, bailar la cueca… ¡y lo que venga!

¡Viva Chile! ❤️🍷🇨🇱

Saludos,

Paula Tejeda

"Brindo dijo un huaso techie, mirando su celular, ¡no me importa quedarme sin batería, si todavía queda vino pa tomar!"

A Fonda is a traditional Independence Day gathering with empanadas, asados, lots of wine, live music, and dancing. The celebration starts pretty early in September, and let’s say the festive spirit goes on almost all month, leading up to the big celebration on September 18, or “el 18,” as we call it in Chile.

There's different dances, from Cumbia to Rock-n-Roll (Chilean versions), but Cueca is the national dance. La Cueca is Chile's folk dance performed with precise footwork, flirtatious movements, and the waving of a handkerchief — it's inspired by the courtship between the rooster and the hen.

I know I write about my favorite annual event every year, but I’m not alone — pretty much anyone who makes it to the San Francisco Botanical Garden falls in love with Flower Piano.

Mauro ffortissimo (Argentinian) and Dean Mermell, founders of Sunset Piano, spread 12 pianos throughout the Botanical Garden, inviting pianists to play in one of the most spectacular settings imaginable. Fabulous performances are scheduled throughout the week.

The event is already underway, but there are still plenty of outstanding concerts coming up. If you’ve never experienced Flower Piano, this is your chance. Don't miss it!

Through social media, I recently connected with a spectacular Chilean musician and organist based in Los Angeles who will be performing in Las Vegas. So, if you know anyone in that neck of the woods, please pass this along!

Paul S. Hesselink Concert Series

Friday, September 18, 2026

7:00 PM

Christ Church Episcopal

2000 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas

"The Concert Series opens its 2026–2027 season at Christ Church Episcopal in Las Vegas, home to the largest pipe organ in Nevada.

Originally from Chile, Mallory Haney Loo earned her bachelor’s degree in Organ Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, studying with Janette Fishell, and completed her Master of Music at USC Thornton School of Music with Cherry Rhodes, on a full scholarship."

Her performances have taken her throughout the United States, South America, and Europe.

Mallory will present a wide-ranging program featuring classical masterpieces alongside her own arrangements of iconic Chilean, Latin American and rock music:

  • Ludovico Einaudi
  • Franz Liszt
  • J. S. Bach
  • Bohemian Rhapsody — Queen
  • La Poderosa Muerte — Los Jaivas
  • El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido — Quilapayún
  • Toccata y Villancico — Alberto Ginastera

"From the grandeur of Bach and Liszt to the cinematic beauty of Einaudi—and the unmistakable sounds of Queen and Latin American music—this concert will showcase the pipe organ in ways you may never have imagined."

A Chilean musician bringing Chilean and Latin American music to one of the most magnificent instruments in Nevada.

If you know anyone in Las Vegas, send them this post!

Muni’s Bussin’ Bingo

I have to admit, at the beginning I was reluctant to participate. I thought: “nooooo... one more thing to think about!” But I’m so glad I joined.

Thank you to Muni’s Bussin’ Bingo for making Chile Lindo part of this great initiative. So many people are discovering us through the game, and it’s been wonderful to see new customers taste our empanadas and pastries.

"By popular demand, Muni’s Bussin’ Bingo is back! Join us this September to celebrate Transit Month with a fun twist on a classic game—combining support for local businesses with Muni pride. It’s a fun way to explore San Francisco, discover neighborhood businesses, and experience the benefits of Muni Forward firsthand."

And yes, Chile Lindo is one of the stops!

I don’t say Chile Lindo empanadas are the best.

Google reviews do!
