Five Points Families ...
Linked below is a letter which was shared via email with all Five Points and Dennis families on Friday, April 9, 2021. This letter was a reminder to everyone that unkind behavior will not be tolerated. With this letter in mind, it is important now more than ever to have conversations about promoting a culture of kindness and inclusion of all. Click here to access the letter.
As we move forward, students and staff will engage in daily activities concentrating on kindness and respect. With our ongoing focus with ROAR, we will continue to lead and engage in a school climate which is positive and respectful.
Sincerely,
Traci Griffen, Principal

Notes from the Nurse
Just a few friendly reminders for our Five Points Families ...
Daily at Home Health Checks
- Check your child’s temperature everyday even if they do not feel sick. Must be <100 degrees.
- Check your child daily for COVID or other illness symptoms; they must stay at home if they have any symptoms.
- Do not send your child to school after they have been given fever reducing medications, Tylenol/Motrin etc. I realize you may be giving this as a pain reliever but it could mask other symptoms that are related to COVID-19.
Important Health Information Related to COVID-19
- If your student has been tested for COVID-19 they may not return to school until the results are back.
- If you have a child test positive for COVID-19 please call the school nurse to report it and follow the guidance of isolation/quarantine set by the health department (10-14 days). Plan to pick up siblings at other buildings in the District.
-
Students must stay home anytime they are sick. This includes but not limited to a fever >100.0, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headache, new onset or worsening cough, sore throat, new onset loss of taste or smell, repeated shaking or chills or muscle pain.
Please contact Cindy Manoni, Clinic Nurse, by email or at 937-748-6093 if you have any questions or concerns.
|
|
Mask Reminders
Please review mask reminders with your child. To do our part to maintain safety, students must wear their mask properly throughout the school day. We have recently noticed students struggling to following this safety expectation.
- Masks/face coverings need to cover both the nose and mouth.
- Make sure your child's mask/face covering fits securely on their face.
- If your child's gaiter has become too loose, it may need to be replaced.
- Face masks should be washed frequently. Student should wear a new, clean mask each day.
- It may be helpful to have a few masks/face coverings in your child's backpack in case it becomes soiled during the school day.

Additional Five Points Information
Daily Attendance
Please contact Patty Wolpert by email or phone call 937-748-6090 if your child will be absence by 9:00 a.m. This procedure applies to our Model B remote learning students as well.
Car Rider Drop Off in the A.M. ... REMINDER
Parents who drive their child(ren) to school will begin the car line around the building on the WEST side - at Door 3 (gym). PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR CHILD IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. Drop off may begin at 8:00 a.m. Please make sure your child is ready to get out of the car once you pull along the sidewalk. A staff member will be at Door 3 each morning to monitor arriving students. Masks/face coverings will need to be on prior to exiting the car. Students will go to the gym until dismissed at 8:15 a.m. Parents will loop around the staff lot and exit out the west front exit. Please watch for buses leaving the campus and students using our crosswalk.
Late Arrivals
If you happen to arrive late to school in the morning, a parent/guardian must sign-in the child to the office and provide reason for the late arrival (i.e. doctor's appointment). Please do not drop off your child in the front of the building and allow them to walk in without a parent/guardian. Masks/face coverings will need to be on prior to entering the building.
P.M. Car Riders ... keep numbers displayed
If you are picking up your child in the car rider line at dismissal, please have your car rider tag visible as you proceed through the line at all times. Many parents put their number card away once one of our staff members collects the number for our reporting system. It is essential to keep your number displayed so our duty teachers can verify car numbers to student's back pack tag as they head to the car. We appreciate your help and understanding with this process.
Proper Dress for the Weather
Even though temperatures are beginning to warm up, please make sure your child is properly dressed for the weather each day at school. While shorts are acceptable to wear in the building, without having leggings or sweats underneath, will make for a chilly recess with the "feels like" temperature at 32 degrees. Starting January 11, if possible, classes may go out for a quick walk to get some fresh air even if the "feels like" temperature is below 32 degrees. To make sure our students are safe and warm when going outside for arrival, recess, quick walk and dismissal ... a coat, hat, gloves and pants are all best during these cold conditions.
Lunch Account
Although school lunch this year is free for the 2020-21 school year due to federal funding, students still need to have money on their account for ala carte items ... i.e. chips, ice cream, etc. Please check your child's lunch account to verify that your child has a balance to purchase these extra items. You can always send in a check to add money to the account or go on-line using PaySchools Central to increase your child's balance.
Vacation Notice
If you plan to travel during the school year, please be sure to submit a vacation request to Mrs. Lierly, Assistant Principal, for approval prior to taking your vacation. These days shall be included in the twelve (12) absences students are allowed per school year. You can check-out our Attendance Policy on our district website.
School Fees
Since report cards will go home on January 11, we want to remind everyone if you have not paid your child's school fees, the report card will be held in the office. School fees are currently being collected and may also be paid on-line through PaySchools Central. School fees for 2020-21 is $87 - a check can be made payable to Five Points Elementary. If you are unable to pay the entire balance at this time, we would be happy to assist you with designing a payment plan. Please contact Mrs. Riegle, in the front office, to set up a payment plan.

Announcements for Model B Parents
Ohio State Testing
Ohio State Testing of our students is moving forward as scheduled for the 20/21 school year. All students in grades 3-5 will be assessed in ELA and Math. Grade five students will also take a Science assessment. All testing will occur in the morning.
Model B Learners will test following the schedule below. We will follow the same procedure as we did for the IOWA and COGAT testing. All students will report to their HOME building for state testing. For example, if a student's home building is Five Points but he/she is receiving instruction from a Dennis teacher, that student will report to Five Points to take the state test. Conversely, should a Dennis student be receiving instruction from a Five Points teacher, that student will report to Dennis to take the state assessment
Our testing schedule will be as follows: Model B
3rd Grade: 8:15 to 10:30 a.m.
April 23 - ELA
April 30 - Math
4th Grade: 8:15 to 10:30 a.m.
April 28 - ELA
May 3 - Math
5th Grade: 8:15 to 10:30 a.m.
April 29 - ELA
May 4 - Math
May 5 - Science
Parents will drop off remote students between 8:00-8:10 a.m. in the normal parent drop off location in the WEST Parking Lot. Parents please stay in your car and let students exit onto the sidewalk. Mrs. Lierly will be stationed near Door 3 with a clipboard to welcome and direct students. Students will walk in using Door 3 and walk straight to the cafeteria for testing. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will be enforced. Only remote students will be testing in the cafeteria. Please have them bring a water bottle and a book to read when finished. Students will only use the restrooms across from the cafeteria if necessary. They will use school provided Chromebooks for the assessment.
Testing will be finished by 10:30 a.m. Parent pick up is the same as drop off along the sidewalk. Parents should stay in their cars if you choose to wait for your student. It is helpful for cars to have a paper sign in their car window to identify their student. First and last names clearly written on a sheet of paper will help expedite the pick up process. Students will be escorted outside to wait for their ride once finished.

COVID 19 Test Kits
The State of Ohio has provided Home Test Kits for Ohio Schools. If your student is in need of testing please contact the Building Nurse at your students school.
The 15-minute BinaxNOW COVID 19 Ag Card Home Test has received FDA Emergency Use Authorization for at-home testing in collaboration with the telehealth session. Abbott has selected eMed, a digital health solution, as its telehealth partner. This service for COVID 19 testing prescribes and allows the test to be done rapidly at home with virtual instruction and consultation. A trained telehealth professional guides those being tested through the at-home self-test via video call using the BinaxNOW COVID 19 Ag Card Home Test and Abbott’s complementary NAVICA mobile app to enable the testing process and display BinaxNOW COVID 19 test results.
Springboro Community City Schools will be dispensing the test kits upon parental request. The parent will need to arrange to pick up the test kit from the students school clinic. In following the district’s COVID 19 protocols, a copy of the test results will be required for your student to return to school in accordance with the ODH guidelines.

COVID-19 FAQs, Diagnosis, Treatment and Quarantine
Latest Ohio Department of Heath Guidelines ... click here for more information. Page 5 has the Quarantine Guidelines for vaccinated individuals.
COVID-19 Health Update
As a reminder, it is critical that if your student, or a family member in your household, has been tested for COVID-19 and you’re still awaiting results, please remain home until the results of the test are known. Do not have your student report to school while you’re awaiting results. Also, if your student or a family member in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, please stay home to self-quarantine.
Do not report to school if either of these scenarios apply to you or your family. Only, if we work together, as a district, as parents, and as community members can we continue to maintain a safe school environment for all of our students and staff.
The district has available data showing the number of confirmed, positive COVID-19 cases for both students and staff, throughout each school building, within a one-week time frame, as is required to be reported to the State of Ohio. Each week's data for the current school year will be archived for view. You can also stay current with the most updated district COVID-19 news. Click here to be directed to this webpage.
Educational Assistants ~ Substitutes Needed ~
Educational Assistants work with student(s) with identified special needs, in an effort to provide the student(s) with the academic and behavioral support needed to gain full benefit from the district's special education program. This rewarding opportunity pays $9.50/hr. If you are interested in learning more information, please contact HR Assistant, Marcy Thomas or call 937-748-3960, ext. 2093.
District to Increase Pay for Substitute Teachers
Springboro Schools’ substitute teachers will now see an increase in pay from $90 per day to $100 per day.
“We know this year is certainly bringing more challenges for a lot of districts, as it relates to staffing,” said Superintendent Larry Hook. “Our Board of Education recognizes the need for high quality substitutes in our district, and we’re hopeful that increasing the rate will help attract more subs looking to be a part of Springboro Schools.”

School Fees Update
As we’re all well aware, this school year is unlike any other. In particular, as it relates to school fees, we wanted to share a few details on the particulars of school fees given the structure of this current school year.
As all students in Springboro Schools are given the option of transitioning between our Model A (in-person) and Model B (at-home/virtual) by quarter, this proves difficult when assessing school fees mid-year. Given this, we will review the school fees for our Model B students at the conclusion of the school year. In the event a Model B student did not receive all items within the school fee structure, those particular fees (or fee) will be prorated by quarter, and a credit or refund will be applied. Again, this will be done so at the end of this school year for any student who was in Model B during a particular quarter.
Up-to-Date Contact Information
We want to make sure you're receiving the latest in district and school information this school year. Please sign up for the various district newsletters using this link.
Student Face Coverings
Students will be required to wear a face mask or gaiter while in attendance at Five Points Elementary. Students are expected to bring their own face masks and gaiters, as they will not be provided by the school. Due to a Ohio Department of Health order, face shields are not an appropriate substitute for face masks/gaiters. For more information, visit the district's COVID-19 webpage and click on 'Face Coverings Policy.
As you send your child to school wearing a face covering, please remember face coverings (masks, gaiters) should ...
- Fully cover the mouth, nose, and chin.
- Not create difficulty breathing while worn.
- Be held secure through either a tie, elastic, etc. to prevent slipping.
- Not disrupt the educational process.
