Hello!
How can you not talk about the weather? Egads, it's even too hot for me!

If you find yourself wondering what to do tonight because: you've already watched all the new shows, your to be read pile requires too many decisions for your overheated brain, and you just want a soothing conversation, we have a wonderful suggestion! Our friends at Boswell Book Company are hosting Shelby Van Pelt tonight (5/13) in person and on Zoom at 6:30p.m. Shelby is the author of Remarkably Bright Creatures, one of Lynn and Lisa's favorite books this year. You may have caught the NPR interview with the author last Friday. (Yes, I sat in my van in the driveway until it was over). If you missed it, you listen to it HERE. From Kevin Wilson, author of Nothing to See Here, "Remarkably Bright Creatures is a beautiful examination of how loneliness can be transformed, cracked open, with the slightest touch from another living thing. Shelby Van Pelt makes good on this wild conceit, somehow making me love a misanthropic octopus, but her writing is so finely tuned that it's a natural element of a larger story about family, about loss, and the electricity of something found."
Sign up for tonight's (5/13) event at Boswell in-person or on Zoom HERE.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our Indie Bookstore Day. It was a day full of LOVE!

Cheers and Happy Reading!
Lisa with Katrina, Ken, Chloe, Genavieve, Toni, Kristen, Elisabeth, Beth, Lynn, Judy, Emma, Lizzy, Connie, Susie, and Grace

Nicola Griffith’s Spear is a spellbinding vision of the Camelot we've longed for, a Camelot that belongs to us all. Bookseller Genavieve says it's "This book is somehow both slender and epic, it's a short tale but one that will take up more space than it should be able to occupy. Percival's story is retold in an enchanting tale of courage, curiosity, love and magic. Spear is now firmly slotted into my Arthurian Legend brainspace and I hope there are many more retellings to come."
by Claire Kohda

Bookseller Katrina says "A brand new take on the vampire novel is extremely relatable as Lydia tries to deal with things that many young adults face: aging parents, depression, new job, crushes, fitting in and finding herself. But on top of that, she also has the immense hunger of being a vampire and trying to find food that isn't human. I loved this novel and the fact that it's actually so relatable. Perfect for readers of Ottessa Moshfegh "
by Alex Finlay

Twisty, poignant, and redemptive, The Night Shift is a story about the legacy of trauma and how the broken can come out on the other side, and it solidifies Finlay as one of the new leading voices in the world of thrillers. Bookseller Lizzy says "This twisty thriller blew me away! It had short chapters, multiple POVs, and a great female main character!"

Stanley’s thrilled for bookmobile day—until the old man at the window refuses to lend him the story he wants, all because it features a girl. “Girl books” are only for girls, the book man insists, just like cat books are only for cats and robot books are only for robots. But when a dinosaur arrives at the bookmobile and successfully demands a book about ponies, Stanley musters the courage to ask for the tale he really wants—about a girl adventurer fighting pirates on the open seas.
by Carter Higgins

Virgil Knox was attacked by a monster. Of course, no one in Merritt believes him. Not even after he stumbled into the busy town center, bleeding, battered, and bruised, for everyone to see. He’d been drinking, they said. He was hanging out where he wasn’t supposed to, they said. It must’ve been a bear, or a badger, or a gator—definitely no monster. Virgil doesn’t think it was any of those things. He’s positive it was a monster.
