Art at camp includes omanut, ceramics, etz, and ma'ayan. Each week chanichim tap into their creativity in each of these areas. In omanut, the theme this summer is nissim (miracles), and every week they focus on a different miracle. Campers have made canvas or tile representations of the days of creation, Shabbat placemats, and candle holders. In ceramics they have made various projects including ice cream bowls, shalom plaques, and plates to use for various celebrations. In etz, edot made different Jewish holiday-themed projects out of wood such as birkat hamazon booklet holders and dreidels! And in ma'ayan, chanichim work with mixed media materials to create projects with cloth, beads, paint, wire, and paper mache, to name just a few. This week we were excited to welcome to camp Israeli artist Hanoch Piven as artist in residence. Piven is an award-winning illustrator and educator who reinvents the meaning and use of everyday objects in his work. For the past two weeks he has taught our omanut tzevet and chanichim the tenets of his style while working with them to support their own creativity.
