Chamber Looks Forward to 40th Annual Winterville Watermelon Festival

Every August, something special happens in Winterville. The air feels just a little sweeter - and it's not just the humidity. The streets hum with excitement, and a familiar sense of home settles over us like the late summer sun. The Watermelon Festival isn't just an event - it's a feeling. A tradition. A thread woven through the heart of our town for nearly four decades.

Like so many in our community, I grew up attending the festival. I remember the sounds of laughter and live music drifting through the night air, relishing in the fair food and the freedom of celebrating summer with my friends. It was magic then. And somehow, it still is. Even the alligator rollercoaster ride that terrified me when I was five (thanks, Dad, for stopping the ride for me...).

Now, I have the incredible honor of being a part of the team that helps bring that magic to life. It's hard to put into words what it means to stand on the other side of the planning - remembering how it felt to be a child taking it all in, and now getting to create those moments for others. Even more meaningful is the opportunity to raise my own son in the middle of it. To watch his eyes light up just like mine did, to show him what community looks like when people come together out of love and pride for the place they call home.

That’s the real magic of the Watermelon Festival. It belongs to all of us. Whether you're a lifelong resident or visiting for the very first time, you’re part of something bigger - something built on decades of memories, sweat, laughter, and yes, a whole lot of watermelon.

It takes a village to make the festival happen. Volunteers, town staff, board members, civic groups, performers, vendors, and neighbors - everyone plays a part. It’s a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when a community rallies together for something. And when the lights glow at night, when the music kicks off, when that first bite of watermelon hits your lips - you can feel it. The heartbeat of Winterville; A Slice of the Good Life.

We invite you to join us this year, to celebrate not just summer tradition and watermelon, but everything that makes Winterville the kind of town worth coming home to.

August is always filled with community events and outreach, and this year is no exception. If you're looking for ways to get involved, our Back to School Breakfasts or Watermelon Festival are great ways to get hands-on in the community. Send me a message if you want to learn more about volunteering!

Be sure to drop by Coopers Cup on either August 13th or 19th to view and vote on the changes to our by-laws and policies. These updates are very important to continue the forward momentum of our Chamber, and we need your input to make it possible. Stop by to vote and stick around to network! View the proposed changes here.

Keep an eye out for updates from our new member, Donnell Austin of Aureus Solutions, who is working to launch a neighborhood magazine right here in Winterville. In the coming months, she’ll be connecting with local advertisers and moving forward with the first issue!
