Local Hero of the Month: Debra Tendrich

This month, we are proud to recognize Florida State Representative Debra Tendrich as our Hero of the Month for her dedication to improving the lives of families throughout Palm Beach County.

Before being elected to represent Florida House District 89 in 2024, Representative Tendrich founded Eat Better Live Better, a local nonprofit dedicated to fighting food insecurity and improving access to nutritious food. What began as a small grassroots effort has grown into a vital community resource offering nutrition education, grocery assistance, affordable produce, and other support to families in need. Today, the organization reaches more than 200,000 people in Palm Beach County each year.

Representative Tendrich has carried that same commitment to service into the Florida Legislature. Her work has focused on issues affecting children, families, domestic-violence survivors, health care, mental health, and community safety. In 2026, legislation she sponsored addressing domestic violence and protective injunctions was signed into law.

Her service has earned widespread recognition, including being named the 2026 Elected Official of the Year by the Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Yet her greatest impact can be seen in the thousands of children and families whose lives have been strengthened through her advocacy and hands-on community work.

Representative Tendrich reminds us that meaningful change often begins with one person who sees a need and decides to act. We are honored to recognize her leadership, compassion, and continued commitment to serving our community.

Back-to-School Safety: Protecting Children Who Walk or Bike to School

As summer winds down and Palm Beach County families prepare for a new school year, neighborhood roads will soon become busier with children walking and biking to school. A few extra moments of caution can help prevent a serious tragedy.

Tips for Drivers

  • Slow down in school zones and residential neighborhoods.
  • Watch for children near crosswalks, sidewalks, bus stops, and between parked vehicles.
  • Come to a complete stop before the crosswalk and allow children enough time to cross safely.
  • Never pass a vehicle stopped for a pedestrian.
  • Avoid using your phone or engaging in other distractions while driving.
  • When backing out of a driveway, look carefully for children walking or biking behind your vehicle.

Tips for Children and Families

  • Choose the safest route to school and practice it together before the first day.
  • Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks whenever possible.
  • Teach children to look left, right, and left again before crossing.
  • Remind children to make eye contact with drivers before entering the roadway.
  • Children riding bicycles should wear properly fitted helmets and ride in the same direction as traffic.
  • Bright or reflective clothing can help children remain visible, especially in the early morning.

Children may not always recognize danger or accurately judge a vehicle’s speed. That makes it especially important for drivers to remain alert, patient, and prepared to stop.

At Silver Injury Law, traffic safety is deeply important to us. As students return to school, let’s all slow down, put distractions away, and work together to keep Palm Beach County’s children safe.

Reaching Young Drivers—One Student at a Time

It was a busy and rewarding month for Dori Saves Lives and Silver Injury Law as we continued our mission to educate young drivers about traffic safety.

Our team had the opportunity to speak with students at West Boca Raton Community High School and Lake Worth Community High School about the responsibilities that come with getting behind the wheel. The presentations focused on the importance of making safe choices, avoiding distractions, and understanding how one decision can have lifelong consequences.

We are grateful to the students who listened, participated, and asked thoughtful questions, as well as the teachers and staff who welcomed us and helped make these important conversations possible.

Young drivers face many distractions and pressures on the road. By reaching students early, we hope to encourage habits that will protect not only their lives, but also the lives of their passengers and everyone with whom they share the road.

Every school presentation is another opportunity to educate, inspire, and help prevent a tragedy. Dori Saves Lives and Silver Injury Law remain committed to making our roads safer—one conversation and one student at a time.

At Silver Injury Law we've been known to walk the "last mile" for our clients meaning that, when liability is uncertain or disputed, we will literally walk the "last mile" on the roadway before an accident happened so that we can see what the other motorist should have seen but didn't. We are mindful that, while we will move on to the next case, our clients only have one case so we conduct our own investigations to turn over every stone so that Justice can be allowed to prevail.
