Message from Mayor Kapszukiewicz
I want to thank everyone who attended or watched at home the funeral of Police Officer Brandon Stalker. As I said during the funeral, and previously, his death was a tragedy for our community, and he will always be remembered as a hero. I will keep him, and all Toledoans killed, in my heart and mind as we move forward with our efforts this year to reduce gun violence.
Libbey
While we recover from the pain of Officer Stalker’s death, Toledo’s resilience during this pandemic continues to inspire many across the nation. Among the many investments the past 12-18 months that help retain or create jobs for Toledoans was an announcement this week by Libbey Glass LLC.

The Toledo company announced it will maintain its operations and headquarters here, and also add a new stemware line. Libbey, with assistance from JobsOhio, plans to invest nearly $30 million over the next four years.
Libbey is part of the backbone of Toledo and we are thrilled that the company has committed to increasing its investment in our city. Libbey helped give Toledo its nickname and its identity. It has always been a crucial part of our history, and now with this additional production line, it also will be vital to our future.
House Bill 6
Toledoans should be aware that my administration is fervently fighting for them regarding Ohio House Bill 6.

We recently asked to join a lawsuit that claims the subsidies set to be added Ohioan’s electric bills are unconstitutional, and the result of “a scheme to corrupt the legislative process.” In short, Toledo is joining a coalition of cities to hold First Energy and others accountable for House Bill 6.

I was quoted in The Blade this week saying: "The fee Toledoans are being asked to pay on their electric bills is based on a fraud, in fact, the largest fraud in the history of the State of Ohio. There is no way on Earth we should be helping First Energy pay off their illegal bribes."
Aspiring Hands' Gift to Toledo
Great thanks to Aspiring Hands for creating this artwork from plastic bottle tops that are not easily recycled.

Aspiring Hands volunteers in nursing homes, the Humane Society, retail shops, homeless shelters, and child care centers -- fulfilling 700 service community hours every week. The Toledo Zoo collects items that may not be recycled, which were sorted and used for this project. The caps that cannot be recycled are made into art for Toledo, Maumee, and Holland.

Toledo in The News
The Junction neighborhood in central Toledo is getting a $2.8 million community grant investment from the ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise and ProMedica Foundation. The goal of the grant is to help support a neighborhood that traditionally has experienced disinvestment, which has disproportionally affected people of color.
Toledo Jeep Fest will return during the weekend of Aug. 6, on track to welcome Jeep enthusiasts to the city of Toledo – HOME of the Jeep – once again. While the event took a year off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, event organizers say they are optimistic that the 80th celebration can be done safely late this summer, with the majority of Jeep Fest activity happening outdoors.
