THIS WEEK IN HOUSTON

November 5–9, 2025

Houston’s creative energy peaks this week! 🎶 Don’t miss Bach Society Houston’s Blues to Bach concert on Saturday, where violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins bridges classical and jazz in a moving afternoon of music.

Also, catch Gary T. Murphy’s exhibition All Eyes on Her—if you miss the expected-to-be-packed opening reception, Reeves Art + Design is open to check it out every day (except Sunday) through November 15.

Add in the opening night of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival, Moody Gallery’s milestone show, and more—Houston’s art scene is shining bright!

Scroll down for the full lineup. And, find even more on my website.

WHAT HOUSTON'S ART WRITERS ARE SAYING

Local art writers keep the conversation moving statewide, connecting what’s happening here with the stories unfolding from Houston to the Valley to Galveston and even outside of the state.

👉 Michael McFadden: "Storied Objects: Gil Rocha at Galveston Arts Cen" (Arts + Culture Texas Magazine): A review of Cáscaras y Leftovers: Mapping Memories for Tomorrow, on view thru January 4.

👉 Jessica Fuentes: "Soy de Tejas & Cheech Marin: Showcasing Texas Latinx Art in California" (Glasstire): A review of this exhibition's first museum presentation outside of Texas on view at The Cheech thru January 11.

👉 Joshua Jones: "Exploring The Unconventional at Houston’s Sawyer Yards — Divisive Subjects and Science Become Art" (PaperCity Magazine): A review of two exhibitions at Sawyer Yards: Justin Earl Grant's BESEECH and Paula Lifschitz's Eugenics

Enjoy reading these? Let me know. And, if you write art reviews or publish local arts coverage, send me a link for consideration in future issues.

NOTE: Event details may change without notice. Confirm with the venue or event organizer before attending. Missed an opening reception? Many exhibitions remain on view–visit during public hours.

Since launching MUSED Houston on July 20, 2023, I’ve featured 2,500+ events at nearly 400 local venues —highlighting the incredible work of Houston’s artists, curators, galleries, alternative art venues, and museums.
