Hobart Park was named after the Honorable Aaron Hobart.
The Hon. Aaron Hobart was long one of East Bridgewater's leading citizens and substantial men, as was his father before him. Hon. Aaron Hobart was an eminent lawyer and efficient public servant, holding many positions of trust and responsibility, including State Senator, and member of the United States Congress.
Hon. Aaron Hobart was born June 25, 1787, in what was afterward South Abington, Mass. He was fitted for college under the direction of Rev. Mr. Gurney, and at the early age of fourteen entered Brown University, from which institution he was graduated with the class of 1805. Having determined upon the legal profession as a life work he was prepared for it under the instruction of Hon. Nahum Mitchell, in East Bridgewater. After his admission to the bar in 1809, he passed a year abroad and returning to this country settled in the practice of his profession in about 1811 in the town of Hanover, Mass. He continued in the practice of the law in Hanover until 1824, then moved to East Bridgewater.

Climate Can Do: Addressing Climate Resilience through Fairtrade Chocolate
Do you love chocolate? If so, you're not alone. Americans eat 58 million pounds of chocolate during Valentine's week, lets look at some eco-friendly ways to enjoy it.
The supply of chocolate struggles with the increasing demand due to the impact of climate change on the cocoa industry.
Cocoa trees grow in humid climates and take up to a year to produce enough cocoa for half a pound of chocolate. Climate Change is a significant threat to countries around the equator, like Indonesia, Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast, where cocoa grows.
Sustainable cocoa farming promotes fair trade and climate-smart practices, helping farmers earn fair prices, prevent deforestation, and mitigate climate change. However, producing chocolate has a high carbon footprint due to transportation and requires over 1,180 gallons of water per pound.
You can reduce your chocolate's carbon footprint by taking simple steps:
- Choose simple, recyclable packaging over fancy ones.
- Choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate for lower sugar content and a smaller carbon footprint.
- Buy fair trade chocolate that guarantees sustainable cocoa farming and fair payment to farmers.
- Choose local "bean-to-bar" chocolate for quality and eco-friendliness.
Look for products with third-party certifications, like Fair Trade USA, or brands like Choceur Superberries, Chuao Chocolatier, and Bake Believe, to name a few.
Jennifer Hernández, BuzzAround Intern and Southern New Hampshire University graduate student wrote this Climate Can-Do Article.
Together, we can make a difference by taking action to live sustainably. Let's empower ourselves to create a better future for our planet, one step at a time.

Heidi's Donation to Locks of Love
Recently, 7-year-old Heidi decided to cut off over ten inches of her hair at Salon Esprit in Carriage Crossing to donate to Locks of Love.
Heidi is a third-generation hair donor in her family, motivating her initiative. Pictured, Heidi is proudly holding a newspaper article from the East Bridgewater Express that shares the 2008 story of her uncle, Joshua Goulston, donating his hair to Locks of Love. Joshua passed away in 2020. Next to Heidi on the chair is a photograph of her grandfather, Todd Goulston, whom she calls "Zaydee." Todd also donated his hair when he was diagnosed with cancer four years ago, before beginning his chemotherapy treatments. Todd is still strongly battling cancer.
|
|
Longtime EB resident, Heidi's grandmother, Julie Goulston, wrote to us: "I was very impressed that my granddaughter wanted to follow in her uncle and grandfather's footsteps. When my son did it so long ago, it surprised me because you didn’t hear of boys very often donating.
And then, when my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, he knew he had to donate before he started chemo.
My granddaughter has always had long hair, but she finally decided to get it cut short and follow in their footsteps to donate her hair. I just think this will bring an awareness to people that no matter how old you are or the situation you're in, anyone can donate and help someone else out."
Such a beautiful way to honor her family as well as donate to a great cause!

“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death.”

“There is a crack in everything.
That's how the light gets in.”
