“Show Boat”
Sunday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m.
Show Boat is a multi-generational musical drama that follows the lives of performers aboard a Mississippi River floating theater and explores the effects of racism, interracial relations and marital strife. The captain's daughter, Magnolia Hawks, marries Gaylord Ravenal, only to be abandoned by him in Chicago when his gambling addiction leaves them destitute. Magnolia overcomes adversity to become a successful singer, raising their daughter alone while her story intertwines with that of Julie La Verne, a biracial star performer forced off the boat due to racist laws.

Seeking Volunteer To Tie Ribbon Bows
For years, MPLC has recognized All Saints Sunday with ribbons draped on the altar railing, with the names of our loved ones written on them. Afterward, a volunteer ties each ribbon into a bow, which is used to decorate a tree in the narthex for the holidays. Our longtime volunteer, Cindy Lester, has moved to Washington state, so we’re seeking a new tie-er of bows for this early November project. If you can help, please let Becky Litwin know!
