CELEBRATING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
This month, we celebrate Women's History Month. Many outstanding and notable women have shaped and will continue to impact the future of aviation. In February, we witnessed the first all-female Superbowl flyover. During this month commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history, be sure to check out your local museum and other places of learning to find out more about the critical role of women in aviation. Below are some events and exhibits around the country!

  • The New England Air Museum is hosting a series of events each Saturday called Women Take Flight.
  • The National WWII Museum is celebrating with a schedule of free events, lectures, and a special exhibit
  • The National Museum of the US Air Force Museum has exhibits that pay tribute to the accomplishments of women in the US Air Force
  • The Museum of Flight in Seattle is hosting an event for middle school and high school girls called Women Fly
  • Wings over the Rockies is hosting a book signing with Col. Eileen Collins (2022 Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy recipient) and a talk with Gigi Coleman, great niece of Bessie Coleman

Boom and its partnership with Watershed working to track and mitigate carbon output
Boom Supersonic is focused on its next sustainability milestone: net zero carbon by 2025.

In order to do that, Boom has defined three essential steps:
  1. Measure the emissions of our entire value chain
  2. Reduce carbon output when there are opportunities to do so
  3. Offset residual emissions that can’t be mitigated by investing in high-impact, high-quality carbon removals

“Boom is committed to building a sustainable supersonic future by driving impact at scale,” said Kathy Savitt, President of Boom Supersonic. “We are participating in the Frontier program through our partnership with Watershed to accelerate permanent carbon removal across industries, taking another step toward our commitment to net zero by 2025.”

Airbus decarbonisation targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
Airbus has received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas emissions near-term reduction targets. In 2022, Airbus officially committed to defining science-based targets for the entire set of its emissions and submitted near-term targets that have now been independently assessed and validated by the SBTi.

As part of this commitment, Airbus intends to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 industrial emissions by up to 63% by 2030, in line with a 1.5°C pathway. The Company also committed to reducing by 46% the greenhouse gas emissions intensity generated by its commercial aircraft in service (Scope 3 - Use of Sold Product) by 2035.

Both targets are based on the 2015 year as a baseline and in line with the Paris Agreement goals.

United States Parachute Association hosts annual Safety Day at Drop Zones across the United States
As Spring rapidly approaches, the skydiving season for much of the country is just crawling out of hibernation. Most skydivers don’t jump through the cold months as often as they do in the summer, and their skills are a bit rusty. That’s when Safety Day comes. Safety Day is typically held on the second Saturday in March (this year March 11th); however, some drop zones hold it on alternate dates. Established in 1997 from an idea by Patti Chernis, Safety Day provides a worldwide forum at local drop zones to prepare jumpers for the year ahead. Safety Day promotes safety programs and helps inform jumpers of new developments and review important information and procedures. Activities typically include hands-on review and practice of safety procedures, seminars from skydiving operation professionals and experts, equipment evaluations and more.
