Greetings!
Prior to Thanksgiving, as we ended the liturgical year, many of our parishes celebrated the Rites of Acceptance and Welcome for those preparing to be fully initiated into the Church. This year, along with past years, it was wonderful to see many of those preparing who were either students at our parish school or parents of students.
As one of the priests in the archdiocese has shared, our schools have the opportunity to serve as “front porch ministries,” creating space for conversion and reversion. And we each have a role in extending this invitation to our families.
Entering into this season of Advent, we find ourselves at the intersection of hope and longing, Fr. Luke Gregory, OFM, reflects. “The readings of this contemplative season remind us that hope is not an abstract concept, but a tangible practice rooted in action and intention. In every prayer we offer, every hand we extend in friendship, and every act of mercy, we are ushering in the reign of ‘God amongst us.’”
Advent invites each of us to “embrace our role as ambassadors of hope and reconciliation in a world yearning for peace.” It is this ambassadorship that draws people in, desiring to become part of something larger.

This coming Wednesday, December 3, at 3:30pm, we continue our series with Lewis Poche from the University of Notre Dame, hoping to expand our collective capacity to integrate generative AI in our classrooms and schools. This Wednesday’s session focuses specifically on how we can plan curriculum and instruction with AI.
Please share the invitation to register with your faculty.
With gratitude,
NICHOLAS FORD | Superintendent
Office for Catholic Schools | Archdiocese of Seattle
