Recently Trained Budget Counselor:
A budget counselor we recently trained through our Zoom training sessions has now jumped in with both feet. Recently, her church handed out a flier to the entire congregation stating her availability to help and counsel those seeking assistance. Pray for this new ministry endeavor and her church.
Counseling while in the Barber's Chair:
About two months ago we sat down in a local barber shop chair. This was our first visit to this shop. The barber quickly stated, "Now that you are in my chair, I have some financial questions I want to ask you. I heard about you and Barnabas Financial Ministry from another client. He then proceeded to tell me about his circumstances. He and his wife were considering buying a house and he wanted input on their options given their circumstances.
We shared passages of what the Bible states regarding debt. We then shared how he and his wife should write down a true and complete picture of their annual income and expenses. Their goal being to distinguish what they can actually afford in loan payments verses the amount of loan and payments their lender will qualify them to borrow. Our session lasted the whole haircut. He thanked me for the counsel; and then he refused to let me pay for the haircut.
Fast forward to about a week ago. A mutual friend was sitting in this same barber's chair. Our name and ministry came up during their conversation. The barber shared that they had just recently purchased a house. He also shared how appreciative he was for our honest counsel and input. He and his wife took the time and created a written budget, and that it was a big help in them deciding what house they could comfortably afford.
Potential Congregational Speaking Engagement:
We were recently approached about speaking to a local congregation; one of the largest in the area. We hope to be able to share a sermon on Stewardship (which would include Salvation, Lordship, and Stewardship). The next sermon would be to share what God's Word says about giving. We would conclude with what the Apostle Paul said about giving as it relates to the (Big C) Church today. Pray for our initial conversation about speaking to develop into a reality.
