Jefferson City Dedicates New Safe Haven Box

Yesterday, March 19, in Jefferson City, the Local Emergency Medical Service Leaders held a Dedication and Prayer Service for the newest Missouri Safe Haven Baby Box.

Speaking to the crowd and thanking our EMS and First Responders in Jefferson City for making this Safe Haven Baby Box available was Governor Mike Kehoe accompanied by First Lady Claudia Kehoe. Also in attendance were representatives from the Safe Haven Baby Box Organization, local elected officials, city leaders, and, most importantly, the donors that made this Baby Box possible.

Missouri Right to Life was also in attendance to see this dedication. It was and is exciting to see a piece of legislation we worked for and supported put into action to save babies and be a resource to help women in difficult situations where they are seeking help.

This important life-saving legislation was sponsored by Representative Jim Murphy from St. Louis County. This has been Jim’s passion and priority as he has served the citizens of Missouri.

We thank Representative Murphy and Governor Kehoe for their work on this life-saving Missouri Safe Haven Baby Box project and we encourage all Missouri communities to look in to placing a Baby Box in your community. In addition to your community raising funds, there is a fund in the state budget that may be able to help you.

Missouri's Safe Place for Newborns Act, allows a parent to voluntarily give up their newborn up to 90 days old without prosecution, as long as it is done safely and according to law. Parents who choose to voluntarily give up their child, who is between 90 days and one year old, can use this law as an affirmative defense to prosecution related to child abandonment or child endangerment if the child was given up safely and according to law.

The purpose of the "Safe Place for Newborns Act" legislation is to protect newborn children from injury and death caused by abandonment by a parent, and to provide safe and secure alternatives to such abandonment.

Governor Mike Kehoe and First Lady Claudia Kehoe join EMS Chief Eric Hoy and Mariah Betts, Development Coordinator for Safe Haven Baby Boxes.

Hawley Opens Investigation into Abortion Drug Companies, Creates Hotline for Victims to Report Harms

"Missouri Right to Life applauds U.S. Senator Josh Hawley for seeking answers from the abortion drug companies that removed all safety awareness information from the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone," said Susan Klein, Executive Director of Missouri Right to Life.

"Senator Hawley rightly asks these abortion drug companies what they knew about the harm to women they would encounter and why they intentionally failed to disclose the dangers to women and the public," Klein continued. "We have all heard TV commercials that give laundry lists of dangers to drugs and yet these abortion drug companies seem to have exposed women to drugs without being fully transparent to women and the public.

We thank Senator Hawley for his investigation of these abortion drug companies."

Senator Hawley is also opening a hotline for women who have been harmed by chemical abortion to confidentially share their stories with his office. Please contact Senator Hawley’s office by calling (202) 224-6154 or emailing AbortionDrugHarms@hawley.senate.gov.
