Dear People of Saint Paul's,
This Sunday we celebrate one of the principal feasts of the Christian year: All Saints' Day. This beautiful day isn't just a remembrance of holy people who have gone before, but also a reminder that God is knitting us together into the communion and fellowship of the saints. We are invited to be the current generation of the communion of saints. And so it is also a Baptism day, and we'll welcome two children of God into the family of the Church through Baptism. Finally, at Saint Paul's we always combine the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, and so remember our own beloved dead in the prayers.
I hope that every Sunday we speak the truth to each other and listen for the truth God is speaking. On this day, some of that truth is: you are one with God's family, the expression of God's love in the world, called to carry forward the hope that has sustained God's people for generations. Our destiny is union with God. And we are not the first generation to face challenging circumstances for faithfulness: an unfathomably long chain of forebears is on the path ahead of us, having met God in the midst of the hurly burly of life and accepted the invitation to faithfulness. These truths or aspects of the Truth are challenging and comforting, and are plenty of reason to celebrate. See you Sunday.
