Principal's Message

Greetings Parents, Families, and the Glover Community!

One of the frequently asked questions about Glover Middle School is, “What is Falcon Time?” I genuinely enjoy answering this question because it allows me to showcase something truly unique about our school.

When I first joined Glover three years ago, one of the most pressing needs I identified was a systematic approach to addressing students who struggled to grasp a concept after initial instruction. Even the most capable students occasionally require additional time and support to fully comprehend a specific skill. Consequently, our school community came together and resolved to implement a system that guarantees students the extra time and assistance they need when they encounter difficulties. Falcon Time is the solution to this challenge!

  • Thursday, 2/13 - Honors Dance for 3.0 GPA or No MTSS Referrals
  • Friday, 2/14 - No School for PLID
  • Monday, 2/17 - No School for Presidents Day
  • Tuesday, 2/18 - No School; Possible weather makeup day
  • Monday, 2/24 - Dental Care at Glover

Every two weeks in both English/Language Arts and Math, we administer a brief assessment to gauge students’ progress on the concepts they learn daily in class. While many students demonstrate a clear understanding of the current concepts, others require additional time and support to complete their learning. These students are assigned to a Falcon Time intervention, where they receive extended time and assistance for six days (the intervention is relatively short, lasting 25 minutes per day). During this time, the concept is explained differently, often from a different teacher. This cycle repeats every two weeks, ensuring that students receive timely intervention and support when necessary.

Falcon Time offers unique and exciting opportunities for students who demonstrate learning after initial teaching. These students can self-select from a diverse range of enriching activities during Falcon Time. The variety of offerings allows students to explore interests beyond the school day, such as cooking, welding, holiday-themed activities, STEM, robotics, outdoor grilling, arts and crafts, social activities, athletic opportunities, drill and dance teams, and school leadership involvement. Similar to our intervention opportunities, Falcon Time activities change every two weeks, providing students with a chance to try various new and exciting skills taught by different adults.

Our goal is to ensure that all students at Glover have the time, support, enrichment, and intervention they need to acquire essential skills and concepts while making school engaging and enjoyable. If you have ideas or wish to contribute to Falcon Time by teaching a skill or passion, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

Dental Care Coming to Glover Soon

Glover is partnering with ToothSavers to provide dental care to our students here at school on February 24th.

ToothSavers is a mobile oral health program that provides safe and painless preventive dental services in Washington State schools during school hours. Tooth decay is the #1 chronic disease among children. If left untreated, cavities can lead to other infections and diseases. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reports that dental sealants reduce tooth decay by up to 80%

ToothSavers offers:

  • Oral health screenings: a visual screening to check the health of the teeth/mouth and detect any dental problems or emergencies.
  • Dental sealants: A protective tooth-colored shield that is placed on teeth in the back of the mouth, where children most often get cavities.
  • Fluoride varnish: A dental strengthening gel that is applied to the teeth to add a layer of protection against cavities.
  • Silver diamine fluoride (SDF): A non-invasive liquid that, when placed over suspicious cavities, can stop the decay process, strengthen the tooth, and may prevent the need for invasive treatments such as a filling or crown

Services are free for students on Medicaid and low-cost for everyone else. To sign your child up, please use the link below. Students must be signed up in advance for an appointment in order to participate.

Goal: All Glover Students in at least 1 Activity

You might remember from our presentation in August that Glover has a goal of every student joining at least one out-of-school activity during the school year.

We are currently at 67%, which is amazing, but leaves room for growth.

Getting involved at school has significant benefits for students, including improving grades and sleep habits, boosting attendance at school, and promoting social skills and positive relationships.

We're having a Club & Activities Fair at the beginning of February to help students connect with activities they are interested in. Please encourage them to sign up!

Kindness Week Next Week!

Next week our student leaders have put together a series of challenges and activities to promote the importance of being kind to others in our school. We like to call our school G-Love and this is a way we can put those words into action. We are working on building a community where every student feels love and kindness every day. If you have a moment, please chat with your child about the importance of being kind to others and being part of the solution to build a strong and caring community.

KXLY Covers Impact of Cell Phone Policy at Glover

Staff from KXLY were recently at Glover to interview teacher Caleb Olson and student Alma Bomberger about their views on the cell phone policy's impact on schools. The policy has been a major change for Glover this year. Students are now required to have their cell phones, ear buds, and any other personal technology quiet and out of sight while at school. Glover Administration has seen overwhelmingly positive impacts from this new policy, and it was great to see feedback from a student and a teacher about their perceptions.

Check out the KXLY Video and Article to see what they had to say!
