When I was a kid two of the four best days of the year heralded the arrival of summer – Opening Day and the last day of school. (The others? Christmas and my birthday).
It may not feel like it, but Tuesday’s Red Sox home opener at Fenway means summer is just around the corner. Our clients are already getting ready, which you can read about below. Rhode Island’s Grey Sail Brewery has unveiled a new light beer and opening day at Bristol’s Coggeshall Farm is this Saturday. Meanwhile, the Scouts are well underway preparing for Camp Yawgoog’s 109th season and providing the summer camp experience for thousands of Scouts and non-scouts alike.
Monday’s eclipse was not only a reminder of the wonder of being outside but also that summer is coming – the best season to head outdoors. So just hang on a little longer, because summer is almost here, and it’s going to be another great one.
Best,

Momentum Builds for Metacomet Project
|
Progress continues on Marshall Properties’ proposed mix-use development at the former Metacomet Country Club in East Providence. Marshall is currently working in good faith to incorporate feedback from the city, engaging top-tier experts to ensure the project realizes its full potential. The development also prioritizes community input, with enhancements such as an increased buffer zone, tree planting and a safe link to the East Bay Bike Path.
The mixed-use development aims to preserve scenic and recreational resources along Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and the East Providence waterfront, featuring retail spaces, housing, pedestrian promenades and walking paths. Additionally, a 9-hole public golf course is in the works with an anticipated opening in summer 2024.
| |
The project is anticipated to generate $5.3 million in taxes for the city, 3,640 jobs during construction and approximately 630 permanent jobs in the first year of operation.
“We’re pleased with the progress made in recent weeks and are confident in the shared vision of creating a vibrant destination that will be a great addition not only to East Providence but Rhode Island as a whole,” said Lianne Marshall, co-owner of Marshall Properties, Inc.

Quonset: A Rhode Island Environmental Champion | Visits from offshore wind support vessels are projected to double this year at Quonset's Port of Davisville.
|
While Rhode Islanders are familiar with Quonset’s oversized contribution to the region’s economy, less well-known is the crucial role the business park plays in protecting the environment.
Recently, Chelsea Siefert, the Quonset Development Corporation’s (QDC) Chief Operating Officer, highlighted Quonset’s environmental record in testimony before the General Assembly supporting the state’s Green Bond initiative.
Siefert told the legislators that if Rhode Island is going to meet its ambitious renewable energy goals, landside infrastructure to support offshore wind will be essential. Enter the Port of Davisville— Rhode Island’s only public port. Last year, the Port had 260 ship calls including 40 from offshore wind construction vessels alone. This year’s ship traffic is on a trajectory to double that number. The proposed $20 million bond will support upgrades to World War II-era infrastructure at Davisville, ensuring that the Ocean State remains a leader in offshore wind.
At the same time, Quonset continues to bolster Rhode Island’s economy, recently marking the arrival of the business park’s 14,000th job. Continued smart investments at Quonset have attracted new companies, led to the expansion of existing companies and helped create high-paying jobs.
