CREATION CARE LESSONS AND CAROLS | |
|
“Baptists are unable to know who they are or why they think, value and act as they do if they do not know their history which must be more than fanciful creations of an imagined past.” Robert E. Johnson in American Baptist Quarterly, Fall 2010.
In Massachusetts, we have a rich and long history of the Baptist faith and practice. But very little effort has been made to preserve the documents of our past and make it available to scholars, churches and the curious. Andover Newton Theological School, when it moved to Yale University, gave to TABCOM all the records they held in their library that pertained to Massachusetts Baptist History. Some of these have been organized on shelves in our archives room, but much of it remains in boxes. As we open boxes, more and more treasures are unearthed.
A small group of Baptist History enthusiasts have begun the arduous task of organizing our archives at the TABCOM office in Groton. This back room is full of church and denominational records going back to the 1700s. Even as we begin this work, we have already been fielding questions from genealogists and churches looking for information. Information, which is probably ONLY, found in our archives.
If you have an interest in our history and would like to learn more about our Archives, join us on
Saturday April 15th at 1 pm at the TABCOM office located at Grotonwood.
We will meet in our history room (!) and explore our archives and discuss how we can organize our archives.

Dear Friends,
Over 200 years ago City Mission was founded to serve the people of Boston. During that time, we have had multiple names, locations, and a wide range of programs. The City Mission board of directors is committed to the city and to the future work for justice. In 1816, we were founded by members of Old South Church, and we believe our joint work for justice in the city is stronger together. To continue that initiating commitment for justice in the city and the legacy of City Mission, we will reunite with Old South, with remaining assets relocated to the mission work of the church under a named fund.
