VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED
The Tour of the Gila is experiencing lower than usual numbers of volunteers. There is an urgent need for vehicle drivers for the upcoming race on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, May 1

, 2

th
. No cycling experience is necessary and it is a great way to be involved with this terrific event.
Please share this request with your employees, friends and families, and other groups you may belong to, to help spread the word.
There are several positions needed and drivers will learn the ropes prior to the race. Gas for your vehicle is paid by the race, and all volunteers receive a t-shirt and an invitation to the party at the end of the race.
These are the specific needs at this time with descriptions to follow:
* For the 2 professional UCI races: 2 SAG drivers for all 3 road races –Wed, Thursday, and Sunday.
*For the 6 amateur races, the following positions are still needed:
Wednesday – Silver City to Mogollon. 2 LEAD drivers, 3 SUPPORT drivers, 1 COMM driver and 1 SAG driver
*Thursday – Ft. Bayard Loop. 4 LEAD drivers, 5 SUPPORT drivers, 1 COMM driver and 6 SAG drivers.
*Sunday – Silver City to Piños Altos. 3 LEAD drivers, 3 SUPPORT drivers, 1 COMM driver, and 4 SAG drivers.

SUPPORT driver:
Need a vehicle that can carry some wheels. Responsible for handing out wheels when needed by a racer. The racer changes their own wheel. Radio is provided for communication.
COMM driver:
Basically a chauffeur position. You will carry an official within the race. Radio is provided for communication.
SAG driver:
The last vehicle in a category. Need to be able to carry some riders and their bicycles in case they are unable to continue and to follow the last racer of a category to the finish line. Pickups and/or vans are ideal for this position. This is a slow-paced easy going spot.
