(And Governor Newsom signed the Public Banking Law!)
Please join us at the November California Cluster Meeting! We have lots to talk about -- it's been a while since the last Cluster Meeting.
We invite all California WILPFers -- at-large members and branch members -- to join us at this statewide Cluster Meeting! If you're in a branch, please share this information with your branch members, as well as at-large members in your area.
Learn about California and National Issues
This Cluster meeting, in the tradition of the periodic previous "Northern California Cluster" meetings, allows updates, discussion, and state-wide planning on a variety of topics. The tentative agenda includes a range of WILPF program and issue committee topics. National Board member and Chair of WILPF's Earth Democracy Issue Committee, Nancy Price, will be our main presenter, orienting us on plans for a March tour by activist Pat Elder. He'll travel around California to expose how Pentagon bases are polluting our water, soil and bodies, and what we can do about that. Earth Democracy won a grant to help fund this tour!
We'll also have an update on the new developments for national WILPF program and on California issues. WILPF President, Darien De Lu, and the Corporations vs Democracy Issue Committee have some information for us. On Public Banking, the California 2019 legislation to enable Public Banking, was signed this week by Gov. Newsom! How can it affect each branch? We may discuss the California Progressive Alliance and possible WILPF collaboration with it.
Additionall, find out more about a number of climate crisis matters: the San Francisco suit for the climate -- the Children's Climate Trust lawsuit, for which WILPF is filing an amicus brief -- and another lawsuit that we may do the same on, the one Greta Thunberg just filed with the UN Commission on Human Rights/Rights of the Child.
We may also discuss the California Progressive Alliance a bit and possible WILPF collaboration with it. Additionally, national President, Darien De Lu, and the Corporations vs. Democracy Issue Committee have some information for us.
