EARTH MONTH IN LONG BEACH

Happy Earth Month, CRAs!

Earth Month offers a moment to reflect on how everyday actions impact our communities and environment. Across our neighborhoods, simple, practical efforts are helping reduce waste, conserve resources, and bring people together. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Join us for our Fix-It Clinic on April 25th at Michelle Obama Library to get an item repaired or volunteer to help out! These events are an opportunity for residents to repair their items, rather than discarding them. Beyond the environmental benefits, they also foster skill-sharing and connection, reminding us that sustainability can be both collaborative and accessible.
  • Community tabling events are another way to inspire the community. Conversations about recycling and organics, including what goes where, and why it matters, are important. When people feel informed, they’re more likely to recycle right and pass along the information to their friends and neighbors.
  • Another way to get involved includes participating in a community clean-up event or helping create compost with LB Community Compost.

Every effort creates a collective impact. A single repaired item or a short conversation might seem small, but over time, these moments add up. They help build habits, shift perspectives, and strengthen a shared sense of responsibility for the spaces we live in.

Earth Month doesn’t require big gestures. It’s an opportunity to notice where small changes are already happening and how, together, they contribute to something larger.

SUPERSTAR CRA

We want to recognize Mary Perez (Fall '23), pictured right, for her contribution to the Spanish CRA cohort. Mary assisted the class during the backyard composting and vermicomposting course. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring our next generation of CRA ambassadors!

Continue the fantastic work, Superstar!

FAQs

Q: Where can I access the CRA Portal?

A: The CRA Portal is linked here.

Q: Can I access My Impact Page to report hours without going through the CRA Portal?

A: Yes! Please visit MyImpactPage.com and log in to report your hours.

Q: What if I get asked a question that is not about waste reduction, recycling, or composting?

A: At events led by us there should always be a staff member available to answer questions. If someone is asking questions unrelated to the topics we have covered in class, let the community member know you are a volunteer and please ask a staff member to answer the question. If staff is not available, please give them a business card to contact us.

Q: What if the event that I want to volunteer at is not related to waste reduction, recycling, or composting, can I still count that towards my hours?

A: Only events related to waste reduction, recycling, or composting count toward volunteer hours. Please email the Program Coordinator to get a volunteer activity approved with an organization that is not on our list of current partnerships.

Q: What should I wear when volunteering?

A: Please wear your name tag and t-shirt so that community members can easily identify you as a CRA.

Q: Are there incentives for volunteering?

A: Yes! We appreciate your time spent volunteering. We will be entering folks for a chance to win a gift pack for each milestone of hours you've completed (5,10, and on). So, if you've completed 10 hours, you get two entries.

Do you have a question for us about waste reduction, recycling, composting, and/or volunteering? Ask us here!
