CBCS students, faculty, and staff participate in IPE Day
CBCS students, faculty, and staff participated in USF Health's 6th annual Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE) Day. This year’s theme was "Caring for Caregivers.” School of Social Work Associate Professor of Instruction Chris Simmons, PhD, and Department of Mental Health Law and Policy Assistant Professor Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, served on a panel in the morning session, "Unlocking Wellness: Exploring a Toolkit for Inner Balance and Resilience.” Ten School of Social Work students were invited to the afternoon session where they competed on interdisciplinary teams that used appreciative inquiry to create a rich picture, mind map, and plan on how to incorporate wellness into the workplace. Call for Auditions: This Is My Brave - College Edition at USF
This Is My Brave: College Edition at USF is taking the stage for a third year! USF students are invited to audition on Jan. 18 and 20, 2024 and share their story about their lived experience with mental health or a substance use disorder via essay, song, poem, comedy act, dance, or other form of creative expression. Led by Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy, the production aims to reduce stigma by bringing stories of mental health and addiction out of the shadows and into the spotlight and empowers students to share what it’s like to live through these experiences. MSW student named Florida AHEC Scholar
Jacqueline Houston, a Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Public Health (MPH) concurrent degree student, has been accepted into the Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars program for the 2023-2025 cohort. The AHEC Scholars program is a competitive national initiative supported by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration which prepares students in a variety of health disciplines to transform their collaboration on interprofessional primary healthcare teams. Houston is one of only 150 students in Florida who were selected. Read more.

Aging studies PhD student participates in the Great American Teach-In
Cassidy Doyle, a third-year PhD student in the School of Aging Studies, spoke to Ms. Fernandez’s ninth grade multicultural studies class at Leto High School as part of the Great American Teach-In. Doyle discussed her experiences as a first-generation college student, how and why she chose to pursue higher education, and what it means to be a social science researcher. She enjoyed sharing her thoughts on how an aging population affects the job market and how a career in aging means a career in job security. Nearly 200 volunteers from across all three USF campuses participated in the Great American Teach-In at various schools this year.
