SI COAD Updates
Frank Blancero shares his COVID story as a Staten Islander from Dongan Hills with his background as a Program Director of Staten Island Community Organizations Active in Disaster (SI COAD).

During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, SI COAD has responded to community needs by sharing valuable information and resources across our borough, by collaborating among our coalition partners to distribute PPE, test kits, and other life-saving supplies, and by engaging Staten Islanders so that we all do our part in keeping Staten Island strong and safe. Over the last six months, SI COAD has worked closely with NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), the Fund for Public Health in New York, and a number of local partners to take part in the Vaccine Equity Partner Engagement (VEPE) project, as highlighted in this video.

Thanks to NYC DOHMH, the Fund for Public Health in New York, the Staten Island Partnership for Community Wellness (SIPCW), the Pediatric Disaster Coalition (PDC), the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Staten Island, and Super Health Pharmacy!
As we head into the holiday season, and witness an uptick in Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection (RSV) as well as flu cases, please be sure to circulate information to your communities and networks about how they can best make use of resources available to them.
  1. The NYC Vaccine Finder is a great tool for finding locations that provide vaccinations for COVID-19, MPV, and the flu! Visit https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/ to schedule your vaccine!
  2. SI COAD continues to distribute PPE (masks, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes) and rapid test kits. While you prepare to gather with loved ones for fall and winter holidays, be sure to take extra precautions to avoid potential spread of COVID. Be sure to test regularly. Email frank@sinfpa.org to inquire about free PPE and test kits.

10 AM - 11 AM

Are you worried about aging financial system technology or dealing with a patchwork of different systems and manual workarounds? If so, you may be thinking of purchasing a new software platform to modernize and streamline your financial back office. The wasted time, money, and resources directly hit your bottom line. As a nonprofit, you can’t afford to fail. Attend our session to learn how to beat the odds and implement financial software that supports a modern office, eliminates manual workarounds and ends the paper chase. This session is for nonprofit accounting leaders looking for expert advice and tools from someone who has walked in their shoes.
This workshop is being presented in collaboration with the Association of Nonprofit Specialists, with special thanks to their sponsor: Nonprofit Solutions Network.

Key Takeaways:

Strengthening Communities Program Application
Deadline: December 2, 2022

Emergencies affect every community differently, but you can help your community be prepared and resilient. Your Community Network can receive funding up to $40K to work on a community emergency plan through NYC Emergency Management's Strengthening Communities Program.

A community network is a group or a coalition consisting of nonprofit, community, and faith-based organizations that are organized around an issue important to their community such as climate change, gun violence, housing, disability rights, or other issues etc...*

The training program focuses on five key areas/deliverables to build an emergency plan specific to your community:

  1. Creating a needs assessment
  2. Designing community maps of the area where you provide services
  3. Building a resource directory
  4. Preparing a communication strategy
  5. Creating donations and volunteer management plans

NYC Emergency Management staff provides training, coaching sessions and tools that guide participating networks through the program.
