MPAC 101: A refresher for MPPs and constituency offices

With new MPPs joining the Ontario Legislature following recent by-elections, and current constituency offices continuing to welcome new staff, we’re pleased to offer MPAC 101 sessions for MPPs and their teams.

These brief meetings are designed to provide a practical overview of MPAC’s role, property assessment in Ontario, the resources available to constituency offices when assisting constituents with property assessment questions, and MPAC data available to assist your office.

An MPAC 101 session will cover:

  • MPAC’s role and responsibilities within Ontario’s property assessment and taxation system.
  • How property assessments are determined.
  • Common property assessment questions raised by constituents.
  • Obtaining MPAC data to assist with your riding needs.
  • MPAC’s online tools and resources.
  • How constituency staff can connect with MPAC for assistance.
  • Key contacts and resources for responding to constituent inquiries.

Whether you are a newly elected MPP, have welcomed new staff to your constituency office, or would simply benefit from a refresher, our Government Relations team would be pleased to connect with you.

If your office would like to arrange an MPAC 101 session, please email James Harvey. We are happy to schedule an in-person or virtual meeting at a time that works for your office.

MPAC at AMO 2026

We were pleased to participate in the 2026 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa this August. The event provided an opportunity to connect with provincial and municipal leaders from across Ontario and discuss the issues and priorities shaping communities today.

Throughout the conference, MPAC shared information about property assessment, housing, municipal planning, and the data, insights, and digital tools available to support informed decision-making.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with our team at AMO. We appreciated the opportunity to connect and continue strengthening relationships with our municipal and provincial partners.

Connecting with the farming and agricultural community

This fall, we welcome the opportunity to connect with MPPs and their teams at events that bring together elected officials, farm and rural property owners, agricultural leaders, and other key groups from across Ontario.

Our Government Relations team attended the International Plowing Match (IPM) and Rural Expo in September, and we look forward to attending the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November.

Thank you to those who visited the MPAC booth and chatted with our team at the IPM. We had valuable conversations with government partners and enjoyed meeting with members of Ontario’s farming and rural community.

If you or members of your office will be attending the OFA AGM, we would be pleased to connect with you.

These conversations provide an opportunity to:

  • Strengthen our relationship with your office.
  • Hear about your constituents’ issues and priorities.
  • Explore how we can support ministry priorities.
  • Share information about MPAC data and insights available to you.
  • Discuss how we can help address property assessment questions from constituents.

We look forward to seeing many of you this fall and discussing how we can support you, your office, and the people you serve.

MPAC on the road this summer

Throughout the summer, our Government Relations team had the opportunity to visit many communities across Ontario by attending MPP community BBQs and events.

Our summer tour was part of our ongoing commitment to meet people where they are, listen to their questions and concerns, and build stronger connections with the communities we serve. These events provided a valuable opportunity to speak directly with residents, community leaders, and other key groups in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

We heard a range of questions and concerns about property assessment, property values, and the issues that matter most to local communities. These conversations help us better understand the perspectives of Ontarians and ensure that we remain accessible and responsive when questions about property assessment arise.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the MPPs and their constituency teams who welcomed us to their events and helped create opportunities for meaningful conversations with their communities.

The tour was a great reminder that strong relationships are built by being present, listening, and engaging directly with the people we serve. We look forward to continuing this work throughout Ontario and connecting with MPPs, their teams, and local constituents in the months ahead.

What’s ahead

2026 Customer Satisfaction Survey

MPAC is committed to providing our government partners with high-quality service that meets your distinct needs. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our offerings, and your feedback is critical in that process.

Later this fall, you'll receive an email inviting you to fill out our third annual Customer Satisfaction Survey. The survey contains a handful of multiple-choice questions that should take less than five minutes to complete. Your feedback allows our Government Relations team to measure how we performed in 2026 and what areas we should focus on to better meet your needs in 2027.

While the annual survey is a great opportunity for dialogue, you are always welcome to email James Harvey directly with any questions or comments throughout the year.

One-page resources in more languages

As we continue meeting with MPPs and constituency staff across Ontario, a common question we've heard is whether our property assessment resources are available in languages beyond English and French.

To help make assessment information more accessible, MPAC will begin offering translated versions of our one-page resources in January 2027.

Resources will be available in:

  • Mandarin
  • Cantonese
  • Punjabi
  • Urdu
  • Tagalog
  • Tamil

These translated materials will help constituency offices better support residents seeking information about property assessment and MPAC services.

To further improve access to property assessment information, MPAC also recently launched a new translation page on mpac.ca. The page explains how customers can use built-in browser and device translation tools to access website content in more than 150 languages, helping more people find and understand information in the language they are most comfortable using.

We will notify you when the one-pager resources become available and welcome your feedback on future translation opportunities to better serve Ontario's diverse communities.

MPAC data spotlight: Ontario’s housing market continues to rebalance

MPAC’s latest housing market analysis provides a snapshot of how Ontario’s residential property landscape has changed since the 2022 market peak.

According to data released by MPAC in June, nearly 24% of Ontario homes are now estimated at below $500,000, up from approximately 17% in 2022. While this represents a shift toward lower estimated ranges, it remains significantly below the 67% recorded in 2016.

Condominiums are leading the shift. The share of condos estimated at below $500,000 has nearly doubled since 2022, rising from 24% to 46%. Other property types have seen more modest changes, with 18% of detached homes, 15% of semi-detached homes, and 5% of townhouses now valued below $500,000. It is worth noting that greater availability at lower estimate ranges does not reflect suitability for all buyers, as factors such as unit size, bedroom count, and location vary.

The data also points to changes at the community level. The number of Ontario municipalities with a median home value above $750,000 has declined from 105 in 2022 to 65 in 2026. Several communities outside the GTHA, including Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Hamilton, Collingwood, Kawartha Lakes, Gravenhurst, and Brock, have seen a shift toward a majority of homes valued below $750,000.

At the same time, regional differences remain significant. While some communities have seen property values ease from their 2022 peaks, other areas, particularly in northern and eastern Ontario, continue to experience increases in median property values and a decline in lower-value housing stock.

For MPPs and their constituency offices, these trends provide useful context when responding to questions from constituents about property values and Ontario’s changing housing market.

MPAC’s Housing Inventory Map allows users to explore how residential property estimates have changed across Ontario communities over the past decade, providing a more localized view of these provincial trends.

MPAC AboutMyProperty™ e-notifications now available

MPAC is making it easier for Ontarians to stay informed about their property assessments.

Pursuant to recent changes in legislation enabling the digital delivery of Property Assessment Notices, property owners can now receive electronic notifications through MPAC AboutMyProperty™ when a notice is available.

Since launching electronic notifications in June 2026, 31,833 properties have been enrolled to receive MPAC notices by email instead of by mail.

This new feature will trigger an email notification to registered users who have updated their mailing preferences, letting them know when a new notice is available to view online. Property owners who have enabled electronic notifications will no longer receive paper copies of their notices.

For Ontarians, the benefits are simple:

  • Faster access to important property information.
  • More choice in how they receive communications.
  • A more convenient, streamlined experience.

Electronic notifications build on existing access to property assessment notices in MPAC AboutMyProperty™, giving Ontarians greater control while maintaining the same secure, reliable process they depend on.

Property owners may now update their delivery preferences in MPAC AboutMyProperty™ upon registration. If you are engaging with current users, they can find the new feature under the ‘Manage my account’ section.
