July Repair Cafe News

Repair Coach Dean Gallea performed some quick surgery on a Woody toy at June's Town of Cortlandt Repair Cafe. We like to say that repair cafes are like the Emergency Room--for triage and quicker fixes. But sometimes things we see are just too complex for a repair cafe. They receive a referral to an Operating Room, or a visit to a repair shop which might have dedicated equipment and no line of guests waiting. Luckily for Woody (and his grateful owner), this problem was diagnosed and fixed at the cafe!

Best way to find out who is fixing at a cafe? Contact the organizer!

At RCHV we field a lot of inquiries about which cafe can fix what. We try our hardest to find out the answer but it's not easy! Each cafe is attended by a rotating lineup of volunteer repair coaches, so it is usually slightly different every time. Also--we're people powered! And people go on vacations and have other obligations. Sometimes they even get sick or have car trouble and cancel last minute. So despite our best efforts to coordinate the cafe network at RCHV, we're not the ones who can give you the most accurate, up-to-date information on a cafe's lineup.

The BEST ways to get your cafe-specific questions answered are the following:

  1. Go to the calendar on our website and click on the actual listing for the cafe you're interested in. That will open up a new window for the cafe's event listing and on that will be a clickable link for you to easily email the cafe's organizer--works well on either a phone or a computer.

  2. Go to the Our Repair Cafe page on our website and scroll down through the regions and click on the name of a cafe. Most cafes will link to a page for the cafe, and on that page is a contact button that will let you directly email the organizer. In the rare case that there isn't a page for the cafe, the name of the cafe will instead directly open up to an email to the organizer.

JULY REPAIR CAFES

July's first weekend is the 4th of July so no cafes are scheduled--meaning a short and light month of cafes. Catskill pivots to a new location, Stanford moves later in the month and New Paltz solidifies it's position on the 4th Saturday (it is no longer being held on the 3rd weekend of every other month).

For more information, including contact information for each repair cafe organizer and advanced signup links, visit our online calendar.

Repair Coach Dan Casey paused work for a photo at the New Paltz Repair Cafe in May; Dan and Repair Coach Diane Casey's photo working together at the cafe was published far and wide with the article that went out over the AP wire.
