Congress failed to pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) before 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1st, allowing the existing short term re-authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to expire and cause a government shutdown.
While the lapse in NFIP authority impacts the ability to issue new and renewal policies, it does not impact the filing, adjustment or payment of claims on existing policies. Should any of those processes suddenly be impacted, we will update you with the latest information.
As a reminder, during a lapse, Wright Flood can:
- Accept new business and endorsements, however they cannot be processed if submitted after a lapse and/or paid outside the waiting period rules.
- Accept renewal payments for invoices issued prior to the lapse and paid before the end of the grace period.
- Process new business and endorsements submitted prior to the lapse and paid within the waiting period guidelines -- usually within the 10-day time frame.
- Process cancellations and non-monetary endorsements.
Here are some helpful documents that FEMA has provided that include more details:
Wright Flood will continue to work with congressional staff and will keep agents informed of developments. Contact your Wright Flood Regional Sales Manager with questions.
