Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, you inspired your servant Luke to reveal in his gospel the love and healing power of your Son. Give your church the same love and power to heal, and to proclaim your salvation among the nations to the glory of your name, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our healer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

This symbol representing Luke comes from the visions of the four living creatures surrounding the throne of God is found in Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:10) and Revelation (Revelation 4:7). Early Christian theologians like St. Jerome and St. Irenaeus assigned each of the four creatures to one of the four Evangelists:

  • Matthew: Winged man / angel (representing Christ's human ancestry)
  • Mark: Winged lion (representing royal dignity and a voice in the wilderness)
  • Luke: Winged ox (representing sacrifice and priestly service)
  • John: Winged eagle (representing lofty heavenly visions) [1, 2, 3, 4]

Luke is the patron saint of physicians and his commemoration is celebrated with healing services. We will have anointing, laying on of hands, and prayers for healing at both Masses.

Love Grace Blessed Truth MINISTRY

Please note: It is customary at drag shows to tip each of the performers who are donating their performances. Kindly bring cash - singles are preferred. You will have an opportunity to make change if needed. Come, prepared to have a good time!

..from the Pastor...

This is a picture of the finance committee, working to produce a budget that the congregation will vote on at our congregational meeting on November 22. Our budget is so much more than just numbers; it is a theological statement of what we believe, how we wish to distribute what God has given us, and how we see our service to our community, our neighbors, our synod, and the national church.

In Jesus Christ we are all connected, all woven together in our churches, our synod, and the national church.

We understand that what we have been given is not ours to hold onto tightly, but entrusted to us to share with a world that needs to see love and hope, that needs clean water and peaceful lives, that needs to hear the good news of God in Jesus Christ - as our church lives out the commandment to make the world better than we found it.

At St. Paul, we are tasked with an ambitious budget, created in faith, that we will be able to support the ministries of the church with our offerings.

As you consider what and how you can give, or increase your giving, I ask you first, to pray - what has God blessed you with? How will you give thanks to God through your offerings to the church? How is your giving reflected in thoughtful and planned giving to this ministry - what I like to call a giving from your abundance and not giving from your wallet.

Ways you can support the ministry:

Donate through our online giving platforms: Tithely, Thrivent (information in the worship bulletins, in this eBlast, and on the website)

Donate by check. (St. Paul Lutheran Church, 941 Slocum Ave Ridgefield NJ 07657)

Donate appreciated assets. Donate long-term appreciated assets to St Paul Lutheran Church and reduce taxable income.

Make an IRA contribution. If you’re 70.5 or older, IRA gifts support FOR and help you fulfill your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

Make a Legacy Gift.

I ask you to prayerfully consider how your love of Jesus, and His church, will be reflected in your giving.

THIS IS THE LAST WEEK TO DONATE!

God bless, and thank you!

All Saints Day is November 1.

All Saints celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who are the body of Christ. As November heralds the dying of the landscape in many northern regions, the readings and liturgy call us to remember all who have died in Christ and whose baptism is complete. At the Lord’s table we gather with the faithful of every time and place, trusting that the promises of God will be fulfilled and that all tears will be wiped away in the new Jerusalem.(Sundays & Seasons)

We commemorate this time with the reading the names of our loved ones who now live in Christ. At that time, you will be invited to light a candle in memorium. If you would like a loved one remembered, please put the name in the remembrance book on the table with the prayer requests. You can also share a picture to be hung in our sanctuary for the month of November.

If you can't be with us, and would like a loved one remembered, please send the name(s) to Sharla DeLawter, parish administrator, at stpaullutheranchurchnj@gmail.com

All Saints Day is also a day for Holy Baptism. If you or a loved one would like to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on November 1, please call the church office (201.837.3189) 0r contact Pastor Patt pastorstpaulteaneck@gmail.com for more information.
