A Shabbat to honor our veterans

BY RICK GROSSMAN

Temple President

We'll be honoring those who served in our armed forces during our Nov. 13 Shabbat service. We would like to honor not only those among our members, but also parents, siblings and relatives of members as well.

We would love for you to send a photo of those individuals in military uniform, including the service person's name and relation to our member, to Jack Millrod at tbe.mtsinainewsletter@gmail.com for a presentation during the service.

If you would like to say a few words about whom you are honoring, please let Rabbi Shalhevet know or email some thoughts you would like to share that she will be happy to pass along to the congregation within the service. Please send those to: rabbishalhevet@gmail.com by Friday.

We are looking forward to this occasion and hope many of you will join us to honor those who served with pride.

IN THE TORAH

By Rabbi Helayne Shalhevet

Chayei Sarah, Genesis 23:1- 25:18

The portion begins with the story of our matriarch Sarah’s death, and the portion speaks of the legacy she leaves. Her husband, Abraham, sends his servant to find a suitable wife for their son Isaac. The servant finds Rebecca at the well, she passes the test and Isaac and Rebecca are married. Abraham dies and is buried by his two eldest sons, Isaac and Ishmael.

What do we learn from this portion? We give thought to what our legacy will be; are we living a life in such a way that those who come after us will remember us in the way we want to be remembered?
