Mr. Clean is retiring... or is he?

The media is awash with breathless reports that the iconic Mr. Clean mascot is being retired. The end of an era! Oh, how the world is changing!

No need to get your knickers in a knot, because it's a well-known tactic to get free media coverage instead of paying for it. And it's working.

Article excerpt: "After 68 years of keeping up appearances, Mr. Clean, the polished mascot of the cleaning product company with his name, is throwing in the towel.

In a retirement announcement video shared on the brand's Instagram, Mr. Clean is shown addressing a crowd of reporters at a press conference, while donning shades and a Hawaiian shirt.

"It's true, Mr. Clean has announced his retirement. After a career with zero stains on the record, he's ready for new adventures,' a voice-over says, adding that while he is trading in his squeaky-clean image for a slower pace of life, Mr. Clean cleaning products will remain available.

The video ends with the brand telling customers to 'stay tuned' for a fresh look."

Basically, they're going to wait for a bit and then introduce an updated mascot image. It will still be Mr. Clean. He will just look a little different - or maybe a lot different. Despite this tactic not being entirely original, it does work - and with everything going on in the world right now, let's just have some fun with it.

7-Eleven stores bring popular Japanese egg sandwiches to Canadian customers

If you ever watch YouTube videos about living in Japan, you soon realize that 7-Eleven convenience stores are central to life there. People shop there for unique snacks, drinks and other necessities. They also pay many of their bills there. Going to 7-Eleven in Japan is just what you do - especially in large urban areas.

One of the more popular food items is their egg salad sandwich. It's crustless and legendary. How in the world can a plain ol' egg salad get so much attention? Apparently, it really is good... and now 7-Elevens outside Japan are starting to realize that they may have to start looking a bit more like their Asian counterpart in order to boost sales and expand.

Article excerpt: "The sandwich launched in the U.S. in December to great fanfare and mixed reviews, with some reviewers pointing out how the American version differs from the original, but still applauding the effort.

The Canadian take on the ubiquitous sandwich is made with cage-free eggs, authentic Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise and fresh shokupan (milk bread), according to the company. Like the U.S. version, it's 'inspired by' the viral sensation sold in Japan. Unlike the U.S. version, it appears more true to the original - it's crustless.

'We have heard loud and clear from Canadians that they want more of the products that make 7-Eleven Japan a tourist destination,' said Marc Goodman, vice-president and general manager of 7-Eleven Canada, in a news release.

'Bringing our take on the Japanese-style Egg Salad Sandwich to Canada has long been a priority.'

Sorry, why is a sandwich so popular?

We're so glad you asked!

Japan's ubiquitous convenience store sandwiches have a cult-like following, and its 7-Eleven stores are described as a national treasure."

At this moment in Canada, 7-Eleven operates more than 550 stores, however they're only located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. With that said, there are reportedly plans to expand east beyond Ontario.

Children's cartoon character Peppa Pig reveals her younger brother has a disability

Beloved cartoon character Peppa Pig will soon be revealing that her little brother George has a hearing disability. The show will consequently show how he and the family deal with the situation.

Article excerpt: "Peppa Pig is sharing some news about one of its major characters.

On Wednesday, Feb. 4, the mega-popular children's franchise reveals exclusively to PEOPLE that George, Peppa's younger brother, is moderately deaf.

Families will be able to get their first look at George's new storyline on Friday, Feb. 6, during an episode of Peppa Pig Tales on YouTube, which will include a first-ever episode told from George's audio perspective. Viewers will be able to see how a typical day in the family's life can be a little trickier for George.

To make sure the franchise's portrayal is both accurate and respectful, Hasbro worked closely with the U.K.'s National Deaf Children's Society and Camilla Arnold, a deaf producer and script consultant.

Beginning on March 23, new linear episodes will air on Nickelodeon in the U.S. that will continue George's story with an episode titled Hearing Loss. In the episode, Peppa's family will learn that George is hard of hearing during a routine check-up. George will be fitted with a hearing aid to help him experience the world of sound in a new way."

When done right, these types of inclusive storylines can go a long way toward raising awareness and acceptance. It seems like the show's creators are doing everything right so far!
