Fall Song

Another year gone, leaving everywhere

its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,

the uneaten fruits crumbling damply

in the shadows, unmattering back

from the particular island

of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere

except underfoot, moldering

in that black subterranean castle

of unobservable mysteries – roots and sealed seeds

and the wanderings of water. This

I try to remember when time’s measure

painfully chafes, for instance when autumn

flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing

to stay – how everything lives, shifting

from one bright vision to another, forever

in these momentary pastures.

"The living Christ is the Christ of Love who is always generating love, moment after moment. When the church manifests understanding, tolerance, and loving-kindness, Jesus is there." -Thich Nhat Hanh, in Living Buddha, Living Christ

St. G EYC is thankful for the gracious and warm hospitality from our neighbors at the Drepung Loseling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Atlanta. The monks led us in a lecture and meditation on self-compassion, key to showing up in the world with love for others.

Understanding our differences and the ways we are the same are also key to walking in peace and love with our neighbors. Thank you youth and parents for a fun and meaningful trip!
