BBA Digital Assets Series: Digital Assets at the Crossroads

Wednesday, November 4, 2026

New York City, NY

The BBA is proud to bring its Institutional Series to New York City on November 4, 2026, hosted at Aon’s NYC office. The program will open with a fireside chat featuring Debra Brookes, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at the Wyoming Stable Token Commission, moderated by James Knox, Managing Director at Aon and BBA Board Member. Brookes brings extensive experience across digital asset regulation and enforcement, including serving as Deputy Virtual Currency Chief at the New York State Department of Financial Services and as a federal prosecutor before joining the Wyoming Stable Token Commission.

As institutional interest in digital assets continues to grow, the event will bring together leaders across asset management, financial infrastructure, risk, and digital assets to examine the progress being made, the challenges that remain, and the path forward. Discussions will explore growing institutional appetite for digital assets, including digital asset ETFs, Bitcoin, tokenization, stablecoins, and onchain finance, as well as emerging use cases across payments, treasury management, private credit, real estate, and other assets. A dedicated DeFi panel will examine evolving approaches to risk management, the relationship between decentralized and traditional finance, and the infrastructure and standards still needed for broader institutional participation. The program will also address counterparty, liquidity, custody, and operational risks, with a focus on real-world developments and actionable takeaways for institutions navigating the next phase of digital asset adoption.

CFTC Draws the Line Between Prediction Markets and Gambling in New Rules (Decrypt)

The CFTC is moving to formally define event contracts tied to sports, politics, culture and weather as federally regulated swaps, while excluding casino-style gambling such as sportsbooks and casino games from that definition. The proposed rule would strengthen the agency’s claim that prediction markets fall under its exclusive jurisdiction, potentially limiting the role of state gambling regulators. An interim final rule covering casino-style products would take effect upon publication. The measures come as legal disputes over prediction markets intensify, with the CFTC seeking to clarify its authority even as courts, and potentially the Supreme Court, weigh the same jurisdictional questions.
