Welcome to our Framer's Corner!!
We like to take a moment every month to share some of our favorite projects with you.

This month's framing feature with owner Amy Doty is a bright and colorful design, brought to you with the intent of supporting minority groups in our community.
The last month has been a political tornado to say the least, so we wanted to shed some awareness on the minority groups that have been affected by the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade.
Frame of Mind has always stood behind women’s rights, the LGBTQUIA+ community, and the BIPOC community, all of which have been greatly shaken by the SCOTUS decision. We stand behind the belief that women should have control over their own bodies, and that this decision is not only detrimental to all women, but those in minority groups who already struggle to get acceptable healthcare because of the color of their skin,
or how they identify.
In an attempt to show our support to those affected by this decision, we decided to pay homage to powerful women with a recent window display. It may not change the world, but it will hopefully allow people who feel alone and scared after this ruling to know that they have support in our community.
One of the highlighted figures of our window display is none other than the queen herself.. Ruth Bader Ginsberg (RBG).

We did some searching for a print of RBG that we felt was something colorful and bold that would fit in our window display. We found the perfect print, “Notorious R.B.G.” featuring a colorful background, and RBG in a crown similar to the image of Notorious B.I.G wearing the same plastic crown in a photoshoot taken days before his death. The crown image has become synonymous with the late rap star, depicted in numerous images, and influencing widely received artwork of Biggie.
The crown was consigned by Barron Claiborne, the photographer behind Biggie’s “KONY (King of New York)” portrait session for the cover of Rap Pages magazine in 1997. The $6.00 plastic crown worn by Notorious B.I.G during the now iconic photoshoot three days before his death sold for $594,750.00 in a New York estate auction. According to Claiborne, “This crown is a novelty item; I bought it at a place on Broadway called Gordon’s. Without Biggie, the crown would not be worth [six figures]. I only paid six bucks for it."
"That shows you how strong the symbol really is. I always thought Biggie was a king.” This symbolism holds just as much weight with the ample works of art that have come out since the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, depicting her in the same crown. Labelling her as ‘notorious’ has the subtle implication of a ballbreaker, a woman who was often unwelcome in an overwhelmingly male-dominated space (she was only the second woman to become a justice of
the Supreme Court) and whose strap-line became 'dissent.' Both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Biggie knew what it meant to face systemic injustice, and they fought against it on the world stage in their respective (if very different) ways. As Notorious B.I.G once rapped, “Things done changed, but we continue to reign.”
To give this frame job justice, we wanted to make sure RBG stood out strong in our window, so we decided to go with a new line of bright and bold frames from Roma Moulding called Lavo.
The Lavo moulding collection brings old-world French design to its most modern edge. A fusion of traditional carvings enveloped in high gloss lacquer with sumptuous colors; controlled, blended and applied by Italian master craftsmen, and did we mention bold?
We went with the 3 ½” wide Capri Teal Lavo frame to highlight the other strong colors in the piece, and also to make this pop art, well, what can we say.. it pops! Pairing the frame with the “Tween Pink” Confetti fillet from Larson Juhl brought in the secondary color needed to help tie the piece all together and make a strong statement. This is a great example of bringing an ornate frame and making it fit perfectly with pop art. The colors are perfect, and the texture and design brings a classic, and humorous approach the overall design.
