American Legend Homes and Partners in Housing presented “Moving Families Forward,” a fundraiser benefitting Partners in Housing on Sept. 5. The event showcased model homes presented by American Legend Homes for the annual Colorado Springs Parade of Homes. The fundraising event for Partners in Housing gave community members the opportunity to view the homes prior to the official opening of the Parade of Homes.

The two homes featured are in the Sterling Ranch area of Colorado Springs. The first home, at 8111 Pennydale Drive, won the People’s Choice Award during the 2023 Parade of Homes as well as Best Floor Plan, Best Interior Design, Best Master Suite, Best Overall Home, and Best Architectural Exterior. The second home is American Legends’ 2024 Parade of Homes entry and is located at 8267 Nat Love Drive. Both homes were available for touring during the Moving Families Forward event.

The preview of homes event included hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a string quartet in addition to the home tours. Two prizes were awarded: a $50 gift certificate to The Margarita at Pine Creek went to Mike Buffetti and a $375 gift certificate to Mt. Princeton Resort was won by Jade Santiago.

MEASURING WHAT WE VALUE

Over the past 33 years, Partners in Housing has been committed to providing the most effective services to support the Partner families in our program. We not only assess outcomes for reporting but use the measurements for internal evaluation to ensure we continue to evolve in our service delivery. We use many methods of tracking Partners’ hard work and progress and are pleased to share these core outcomes with you!

What it all means:

Improved Housing – % of families that successfully moved on to their own stable housing after exiting our one-year Family Self-Sufficiency Program. (The national average for transitional housing is around 65%.)

Improved Self-Sufficiency – % of families that improved their overall self-sufficiency showing increased confidence, accountability, and the application of new life skills.

Improved Job Preparedness – % of adults that are more employable after attending our one-on-one Work It! Sessions. In these sessions, clients work on their resume, participate in mock job interviews, take career assessments, and work on building other skills that increase their likelihood of securing that next job opportunity.

Improved Income – % of families that have a higher income exiting our program than when they entered.

Improved Employment – % of families that improved their employment situation. This could be a higher wage, more benefits, and opportunity for advancement.

Improved Education – % of families that improved their formal education. This can range from getting their GED to receiving a college degree. This measure varies based on the families’ needs and ability to start a formal education program.

This year [in March], Partners in Housing’s intake team reevaluated the onboarding process for families entering the Self-Sufficiency Program to better streamline access to services and housing support. Partners in Housing’s waitlist has been eliminated, and families are now accepted based on family size in conjunction with housing units available to meet their needs. This change has allowed parents and children to receive housing stability, childcare, healthcare, therapy, and other vital individualized service support at a much quicker rate, ensuring families have the best opportunity to achieve their financial and career goals during their time with us.

By supporting Partners in Housing, you can help more families achieve housing stability, self-sufficiency, and a brighter future with the dedicated support of our staff and services. Every contribution brings us one step closer to changing lives—starting with yours.

Builders for Babies supplies diapers and wipes

Partners in Housing is grateful for our ongoing partnership with HomeAid Colorado, which has been in place since 2002 and has significantly impacted the lives of families facing homelessness. This past June, HomeAid hosted its annual Builders for Babies Distribution Day, which resulted in the distribution of over 3.9 million in baby essentials to support organizations like ours throughout the state of Colorado.

This year, Partners in Housing received:

  • 88 cases of diapers
  • 53 cases of pull-ups
  • 20 cases of wipes

On average, infants require 12 diapers per day while toddlers require at least 8, with a monthly supply of disposable diapers and baby wipes costing $100. These incredible contributions have helped alleviate the financial burden on our families, allowing them to focus on achieving stability and self-sufficiency year after year for six years. We extend our heartfelt thanks to HomeAid and the entire community of builders, volunteers, and donors who made the 2024 Builders for Babies Diaper Drive a resounding success.

Great progress being made at Bentley Commons

Great progress is being made on the construction of 168 apartments at Bentley Commons. Bentley Commons is a collaborative project of GPR Properties – Greccio Housing, Partners in Housing and the Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust – and will bring much needed affordable housing to Southeast Colorado Springs.

The 6 new building foundations are complete and, in sequence according to the development plan, each building has the framing, roofs, and windows rapidly being installed.

The first apartment building is slated to be ready for occupancy by April 2025 with each of the others following soon after. The entire project should be complete and occupied by households earning various levels all less than 60% AMI by October 2025.

We are grateful to be working with Palace Construction and many local subcontractors and vendors on this large project. Funding for the project came from partners to include City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County Housing Authority, and the State Division of Housing. The low income housing tax credit investor is US Bank and the financing is through Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA).

Updates on the project can be found at https://partnersinhousing.org/bentley-commons-development/
