Middle School Musical: Finding Nemo Jr.

Lulah, a Grade VIII actor remarked that "One of my favorite lines from the musical is 'Cooperation is the secret to our success!' This experience was a really good way for us as 8th graders to leave our mark on Shady Hill." The Shady Hill spring musical is just one of the indelible artistic and educational experiences for Shady Hill students. From the production team, costume and set designers and actors, multiple skill sets, and many hours of practice, they brought the "big, blue world" to life and dazzled audiences with the performance of Finding Nemo Jr. Students. Art Department Chairs for Visual and Performing Arts, Nina Alexander and Erin Warwick witnessed that "it was thrilling to watch the production grow and come to life on stage due to students and teachers hard work and singular vision." Read in-depth reflections from the experiences from the lead teachers and some cast members.

Peek into Classrooms: K and VII Math Collaboration

Grade VII students took on a leadership role by presenting their playground design project to the Kindergarteners, creating a meaningful learning experience. They shared diagrams and design ideas while the Kindergarteners responded by completing a pictorial survey. As part of the project, the students experimented with different shapes and sizes to determine what objects would best fit within their designs. This hands on exploration encouraged critical thinking and joyful, active learning!
