The Auld Alliance
presented by Editor, Author and Critic, Nicholas Birns
Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

From the late 13th century onward, Scotland, and France were allies against England. This talk will examine the making and flourishing of the Auld Alliance in the Hundred Years War and after, and how aspects of this bond survived even after its formal collapse in the wake of the Reformation. The talk will conclude by examining the afterlife of the Auld Alliance in the fiction of Sir Walter Scott and in transatlantic colonialism.
