Join IPS, the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador, the Washington Ethical Society, local Salvadoran community leaders and many more for a demonstration outside the Embassy of El Salvador to call for the immediate release of 5 anti-mining activists from Santa Marta, Cabañas who were arrested on January 11.
This demonstration is part of an International Week of Action (April 22-30) organized by the International Allies against Mining in El Salvador to demand freedom for the Water Defenders from Santa Marta and in defense of El Salvador’s historic mining ban. . Events are being coordinated in El Salvador, the U.S., Canada, Europe and beyond.
The Water Defenders were immediately sentenced to a minimum of six months of pre-trial detention on trumped-up charges. Like thousands of other prisoners in El Salvador, they face grave danger of dying or being killed while awaiting an opportunity to prove their innocence. It’s been over a month since their families – or their attorney – have been permitted to see them.
Join our solidarity rally outside the Embassy on Thursday, April 27 at 4:00 pm. Bring a sign if you can (we’ll have some too!)
