A Message from the Executive Director

This spring, I am struck by how deeply our work continues to reflect the values that define our community — creativity, connection, and an unwavering commitment to students.

In this edition, you’ll read about students and staff doing truly meaningful work across our schools. From the growth of the student newspaper at Pivot San Diego, to scholarship recipients at Pivot Riverside, to the engaging teachers who are helping students earn writing credit through creative and practical experiences — these stories represent the kind of learning that inspires and empowers.

At the same time, this newsletter comes at a moment of reflection for our organization as we remember our dear colleague, Craig Hobart, Regional Director, who dedicated 13 years to our schools. Craig believed deeply in meeting students where they were and doing whatever it took to help them succeed. He consistently championed hands-on learning and meaningful engagement, knowing that these experiences are often what truly motivate students to persist, complete their coursework, and build a strong future.

Craig had a way of keeping us grounded. He reminded us — often and thoughtfully — to ask whether what we were doing was truly in the best interest of students. He challenged us to think more deeply, to do better, and to never lose sight of our purpose. He also brought a sense of balance to our work, encouraging all of us to step outside, enjoy the outdoors, and embrace a sense of adventure.

We will greatly miss his perspective, his dedication, and his steady encouragement to keep improving. As you read through this newsletter and see the incredible work happening across our schools, I hope you also see the lasting impact of Craig’s values reflected in it.

Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to support the work that matters most — our students.

Executive Director

The Pivot Post

What started as an on-site journalism class at Pivot San Diego last spring quickly evolved into something far greater, driven by a small group of motivated students and their remarkable initiative. Taking ownership of their storytelling, these students launched and now produce the Pivot Post, a quarterly newspaper that highlights the news, voices, and vibrant life of Pivot San Diego.

The class now has a nine-student editorial staff spanning grades 7-12, building experience in reporting, interviewing, and storytelling. Editor-in-Chief Lily Longoria, an 11th grader, leads the publication, having previously participated in SEMS TV at San Elijo Middle School.

The Pivot Post is a wonderful example of student voice and leadership in action at Pivot San Diego. As the publication continues to grow, it stands as a testament to what students can accomplish when given the space to lead. Keep an eye out for the Spring 2026 edition coming soon!

Pivot North Bay and Pivot Riverside

Charter Renewals

It's been a year of meaningful milestones across the Pivot community, and we’re excited to share updates from both our North Bay and Riverside campuses! In December, Pivot Charter School North Bay received a major vote of confidence when the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education granted a five-year charter renewal, extending our authorization through June 30, 2031. We couldn’t be more grateful for the Board’s thorough review and their recognition of what makes Pivot special.

As Pivot looks ahead, we’re energized by what these charter renewals represent across both campuses: a lasting partnership with our communities, shared responsibility for outcomes, and a steadfast commitment to the students and families.
