Cedar Ridge Camp Worship and Picnic – August 18

Everyone is invited to gather at Cedar Ridge Camp for worship and a picnic on Sunday, August 18. Pastor Tami will be preaching. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at the lakeside pavilion, with the picnic to follow. The pavilion is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There will be no worship service at the church, but there will be a Zoom option available.

Ben Langley and Jerry Van Marter will be tending the grill, as always. Drinks will be furnished. The rest of the meal will be potluck. The pool will be open for swimming after lunch.

So bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen, and a dish to share to Cedar Ridge Camp on August 18!

DIRECTIONS TO CEDAR RIDGE:

Cedar Ridge Camp is located at 4010 Old Routt Road outside of Louisville, Kentucky. To get there, take the Gene Snyder Freeway (Hwy. 265) to Exit 23 (Taylorsville - Jeffersontown). Go east 3 miles. At the stoplight, turn right on Highway 155 (Taylorsville Lake Road - as if going to Taylorsville Lake) and go about 1 mile. Turn right (will be first right) on Highway 1531, also called Routt Road. Go two-tenths of a mile, turn right on Highway 2265 (Old Routt Road). The camp is one-half mile down the road on the left-hand side.

Welcome to New Music Director

The CHPC Personnel Committee is pleased to announce that Aaron Davidson has accepted the offer to be our new Music Director. Please join in welcoming Aaron when he begins his work with us on Sunday, September 8. Those serving on the Personnel Committee (part of the OPS Committee) are Tami Recob, Marsha Berry, Barbara Hedspeth, and Andrea Trautwein.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Music Director at Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church,” Aaron says. “I am passionate about using music to enhance worship and create a meaningful spiritual experience for the congregation.”

Aaron received a piano scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky and graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in Music / Liberal Arts. While attending UK, he served as the piano accompanist for the UK Men’s Choir and the UK Chorale and performed with musicians from a diverse array of music genres.

“I am excited to collaborate with our choir and worship team and contribute to the church’s music ministry,” Aaron says. “My goal is to help foster a deep sense of community and connection through the power of music.”

CHPC members are invited to join Spirit of Sophia in the Gathering Room of CHPC for this experiential book study in September. PLEASE do not let cost keep you from signing up! Scholarships are available. Just email Dana Walker at dana@spiritofsophia.org and let her know what amount is in line with your budget. Desired maximum is 14 participants. What Presbyterians Believe about the Connectional Church

Three ministers came from different places, went to different seminaries, and came to their calls by different paths. When you talk to them, though, you hear what connects them. They are drinking from the same aquifer — one that encourages communal decision making and risk taking.

The connectional life of our church is not wholly based on our polity. Our connectivity is based in our relationship to each other as we live out our communal worship — a worship that has us confess together before we all, with educated brains, engage the Word; a communal worship where we come to the table together and meet the Christ who has died for us all; a communal worship where we all pledge to raise our child together.

The PC(USA) is a church made up of a variety of people and places. We are urban and rural. We are small and large. We have fancy worship and simple worship.

And, for the three-fifths of the church, like me, who were not born into a Presbyterian cradle, we are falling in love with the church that is being shaped by that ethos — a church where grace rules and gratitude flows into service.
