Shadle Park HS Students, Families, and Community,
As we step into the month of May, I want to take a moment to remind all of us how important it is to finish the school year strong. This is a crucial time — a time to stay locked in on what matters most so that we can close out the year with a deep sense of pride and accomplishment.
Here’s what we must focus on over these final seven weeks:
-
Be in class, on time, and fully engaged every day. Every lesson, every moment counts as we push toward the finish line.
-
Stay disciplined with our Cell Phone expectations. Remember, Shadle Park is a cell phone-free school during class time to ensure that learning remains our top priority.
-
Seek help when needed. Whether it’s checking in with a teacher to get extra help before or after school, meeting with a counselor, or connecting with an administrator, know this: every adult in our building is here to support you.
-
Get involved! Spring is packed with amazing activities — from kickball and volleyball tournaments to our Art Showcase, Senior Recognition Night, and so much more. Now is the perfect time to make memories!
-
Leadership Applications are now open! If you have a heart for making a difference through event planning or servant leadership, consider applying for our Leadership Class for the 2025-2026 school year. Details are linked below in this newsletter!
Let's lock in and finish the year in the best way possible!
In partnership,
Chris Dunn
Principal, Shadle Park HS

SBAC testing is a graduation pathway in Washington state and provides an opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned and how well they’re meeting state standards. Strong performance on these tests can also open doors to additional academic opportunities.
To help your student do their best, we encourage:
- A full night of sleep
- A healthy breakfast — available daily at school for all students
Our test schedule for this year is as follows:
10th Grade SBAC - ELA & Math
- ELA SBAC: April 21–25 and April 28–May 2 — during students’ regular ELA class
- Math SBAC: May 19–23 and May 26–30 — during students’ regular Math class
11th Grade SBAC - Science
- Science SBAC: May 19–23 — during students’ regular Science class in the library
Thank you for partnering with us to support our students in showing their knowledge and giving their best effort!

As we look ahead to May and the administration of AP Exams for students who registered, we wanted to remind students and families that, this year, students will take their exams using the Bluebook digital testing platform.
Here are a few important things to know:
- Students should download and sign into the Bluebook App on their school laptop using their College Board account. Practice materials are available to help them feel prepared and confident.
- Exams will be administered in a designated testing room (the Auxiliary Gym) with proctors trained in the digital platform.
- Students are encouraged to complete both test previews (to get familiar with format) and full-length practice exams (as assigned by their AP teacher) as part of their preparation for the exam.
- Breakfast and lunch are available for all students testing through Nutrition Services, even if the morning exams run long (in these cases, sack lunches will be made available).
- With afternoon exams ending at approximately 3:00pm - 3:30pm, families are encouraged to visit the STA Plan My Trip site if they need transportation home.
Please Click HERE for Exam Dates and Key Details!
We’re here to help every student succeed and feel ready. Please reach out with any questions or if you need support!

| | Multi-Cultural Community Graduations | | Technology Fines Placed on Senior Accounts | | | | |
Earlier in March, technology fines were placed on all senior accounts in Intouch for any outstanding laptops and chargers. We understand that students are still actively using their devices, and this is simply a reminder for families that laptops and chargers must be returned in order for students to be cleared for graduation participation.
This process ensures our business office can efficiently manage senior fees and fines before graduation.
We appreciate your partnership in helping our seniors be aware of this important step toward their graduation day which they will complete later on this spring! Please reach out if you have any questions.
| | Mike Miller Scholarship - DUE May 31 | | | | |
Mike Miller taught English, German, Journalism, and Greek Mythology at Shadle Park High School for 29 years. Mike dedicated his life to educating others, as he knew the importance of pursuing an education, and offered students guidance and support through their educational journeys. Mike started his post high school education at a community college prior to joining the U.S. Air Force. Mike spent four years serving his country and upon his completion of service traveled to Germany where he spent 9 months learning the language by immersing himself into the German culture. Upon his return to the U.S., Mike worked full-time and was a full-time college student by taking advantage of the GI Bill. Mike was a dedicated man who understood that hard work and an education would benefit not only himself, but his future family.
Mike was someone who always fought for the underdog, and believed in the value of being a union member. Sadly, Mike passed away on January 30, 2019, after only 3 years of retirement. His wife Lory, and their children, Erich and Alexandria (both Shadle Park High School graduates) want Mike’s legacy to continue to support education by offering the Mike Miller Legacy Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 to a Shadle Park High School senior student. Mike’s family wants to award the scholarship to a student who has demonstrated qualities that may include leadership, school/community involvement, and their need for assistance in pursuit of an education (trade school, community college, four year college, union journeyman programs, etc.).
To apply, please email the following materials to yrol@comcast.net:
- Write a short biography about yourself.
-
Write an essay about how the award of this scholarship will affect your life. What are your future goals and how will the scholarship advance your educational goals? (Please try to limit your essay to 500 words or less)
The student selected for award of the scholarship must have proof of enrollment and registration in an educational/career program. The scholarship must be used for vocational training or costs related to tuition and will be paid directly to the institution or program. Funds will be released once verification of your educational pursuits have been received. The scholarship will be considered forfeited if verification has not been received by August 15th.
